Assistant to the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs, Volgenau School of Engineering
The George Mason University Volgenau School of Engineering seeks an Assistant to the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs who is a motivated, people-oriented and organized critical thinker who can work collaboratively with university constituents. Friendly, professional and competent in face-to-face, oral, and written communication, this self-starter will work independently, as well as in a team environment. The Assistant to the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs, who oversees both the VSE Office of Graduate Admissions as well as the Office of Graduate Student Affairs, is expected to perform accurate research on topics of both strategic and tactical importance which may involve collecting, analyzing and reporting on data gathered across Volgenau, Mason and/or other organizations through various means including, but not limited to, internet searches, phone calls, written correspondence and surveys. Creates Excel spreadsheets, charts and PowerPoint presentations using the collected data.
Often serves as the primary point of contact for the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs, the Office of Graduate Student Affairs and the Office of Graduate Admissions and Enrollment Services by addressing walk-ins, answering email and telephone inquiries;
Independently, must be able to assess, manage and/or resolve requests and assign action items, if necessary, with diligent follow-up;
Assists with planning and attends Graduate events which may occur outside of normal business hours;
Participates in generating and posting content to social media sites including, but not limited to, Facebook and Twitter;
Responsible for ordering and managing office supplies;
Reconciles fiscal reports and acts as telecommunication administrator;
Calendar management and travel coordination for the principals, with timely resourceful agility;
Independent maintenance of office files and records management;
Coordination of the Doctoral Qualifying Exam process, including proctoring exams;
Other duties as assigned.
Outstanding communication and problem-solving skills;
Ability to exercise independent, sound judgement with attention and accuracy to detail;
Ability and skill to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and to prioritize items of importance with minimal supervision;
Ability to work as a team;
Possesses noteworthy Microsoft Office experience, with advanced knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint.
Substantial demonstrated related experience, including working for an executive (minimum 5 years preferred);
Experience working in higher education;
Experience with Banner and Microstrategy.
