The Visual Arts program at The University of Texas Permian Basin invites applicants for a non-tenure track Lecturer of Design starting Fall 2020. The department seeks an innovative educator and scholar with demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching, an interest in creative curriculum development, and a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration inside and outside the University.
The successful candidate will teach 15/15 credits (10 classes) during the academic year. Classes will include, introductory graphic design, animation and game design courses as well as upper-level courses in the area and general education courses. The Visual Arts program welcomes applications from designers whose work addresses interactions between disciplines and whose courses will contribute to a diverse and interdisciplinary curriculum.
The department is seeking a candidate who is committed to both traditional graphic design and the exploration of current and new directions in the field; capable of teaching at all levels; proficient in the materials and techniques of the discipline; and who possesses a broad understanding of new approaches to the medium. Additional teaching experience in multiple studio areas is helpful but not required.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience using the Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, After Effects and Unity to teach image manipulation, graphic design, typography, digital illustration, 3D modeling, storyboard production, web design, animation (2D & 3D) techniques, game design and audio/video editing. Knowledge of 3D printing and other digital fabrication is preferred but not required.
