The Media Arts, Sciences, and Studies Department (MASS) in the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College invites applications for a tenure-eligible Assistant Professor position in television production with an emphasis on digital producing including pre-production, production and post-production processes— to begin August 16, 2020. We are seeking candidates who want to engage in ongoing development of our innovative curriculum, who have industry experience, and who have a passion to teach and mentor the next generation of outstanding media professionals. The MASS department is the largest department on campus and has over 1,000 majors enrolled across six undergraduate degree programs. Our students and faculty regularly receive national awards and have their work selected for distribution and exhibition in highly ranked venues. Faculty in the Park School generally teach 21 credits per academic year, and are expected to engage in peer-reviewed scholarly and/or creative work, to serve as academic advisors for our students, and to serve on committees at the program, department, school, and college levels. This tenure-eligible position offers full benefits plus travel support for research and conferences, as well as yearly opportunities to apply for peer-reviewed research and production grants housed within the Park School of Communications. The position will primarily teach advanced courses in producing and program development, courses that serve undergraduate students enrolled in the TV-Radio degree, but students in the Sports Media; Documentary Studies & Production; Writing for Film, TV, and Emerging Media and Emerging Media degree often take these classes. There is the potential to teach foundation-level television production courses (single camera/field) and to develop new coursework related to one's expertise. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to teach in ways that value the varied learning needs and interests of a culturally diverse student population, and that reflect a commitment to encouraging the success of all students. We are particularly interested in candidates who have relevant experience and/or a record of professional engagement with groups and communities that have historically been underrepresented in the academy. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of professional accomplishment and will bring additional visibility to the program. Special consideration will be given to candidates with experience with and connections in television, cable, and digital programming that is designed for African-American and/or Spanish-speaking audiences or similar under-represented groups in terms of media ownership, executive production, and on-air representation. Candidates from underrepresented groups whose exclusion from the academy has been long standing are encouraged to apply.
