Posting Summary: The University of Virginia's Advancement Office seeks an Assistant/Associate Director, Digital Engagement to support the creative efforts of multiple program areas to connect with alumni, parents, and friends, fostering lifelong relationships with the University.
The primary responsibilities of the Assistant/Associate Director, Digital Engagement are to assist in the planning and execution of GivingToHoosDay, UVA's annual online day of giving, and in enhancing the Engagement team's digital presence. The incumbent promotes the mission of the Engagement team by implementing digital strategy, content management, and digital volunteer management. This position assists in promoting of digital participation, involvement, cross-promotion of initiatives, and fostering the growth of involvement and philanthropic support.
A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required. The successful candidate has experience with digital communications including: executing and measuring the success of marketing initiatives involving email, website content management, and social media initiatives. General knowledge of creating, sourcing and publishing website content, including creating headlines and formatting techniques that stimulate engagement and foster social media sharing is essential. Knowledge of email marketing campaigns and strategies, email delivery systems, and the ability to establish and positively influence a set of measurable outcomes is a must. The successful candidate uses image editing software to create and share mock-ups, wireframes, marketing documents, and website graphics as well as marketing principles to include branding, blogging, and social media. An understanding of social media content sharing and publishing through channels such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Instagram is required. Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite (basic knowledge) and social media platform skills are a must.
This position will be filled at either the assistant or the associate level depending on the candidate's experience, knowledge, and competencies. Successful Assistant Director-level candidates will have one-three years of digital engagement experience, preferably in higher education or a non-profit organization. The successful assistant director candidate has a demonstrated ability to produce and curate creative digital content, implement digital strategy, deploy and monitor new social media properties, manage project tasks and timelines for a team, and is able work independently and on large teams with colleagues across departments.
Successful Associate Director-level candidates have four-seven years of digital engagement experience, preferably in higher education or a non-profit organization. In addition to Assistant-level experience, the successful Associate-level candidate has experience in online giving days, independent marketing strategy development, and planning and executing email marketing campaigns.
