Laboratory Safety Compliance Specialist
The George Mason University Environmental Health and Safety Office—within the department of Safety, Emergency, & Enterprise Risk Management—is seeking an enthusiastic and energetic individual for a Laboratory Safety Compliance Specialist position. This position will support laboratory safety programs and compliance with state and federal regulations. A primary responsibility of this position will be to support Responsible Staff (Responsible Official and Alternate Responsible Officials) in oversight of the select agent program and to facilitate compliance with federal select agent regulations.
Knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word), databases and internet applications. Accuracy and attention to detail;
Database management and data entry experience;
Word processing, recordkeeping and organizational skills;
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously;
Ability to prioritize projects and deadlines.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and writing);
Strong organizational and time management skills;
Strong attention to detail;
Ability to work effectively with a broad range of personalities and work styles;
Ability to work well independently and collaboratively;
Ability to communicate effectively through verbal and written communication;
Ability to understand and follow program and regulatory requirements;
Ability to evaluate compliance with program and regulatory requirements;
Ability to develop and implement administrative processes for select agent compliance;
Able to self-motivate and complete tasks without supervision;
Ability to lift 20 lbs;
At least 2 years of demonstrated record keeping and/or document management experience required.
Bachelor's degree in relevant field of study or equivalent experience performing compliance responsibilities;
Experience working at an academic/higher education or private research environment;
Experience with document management (to include developing review schedules, editing, and formatting documents); organizing and auditing records, recording meeting minutes, and project management skills are preferred;
Ability to obtain Security Risk Assessment clearance;
CPR and First Aid certification.
