The Assistant Director Telehealth Initiatives is responsible for proactively managing the growth and ongoing operations of Telehealth services at ColumbiaDoctors including Telemedicine (synchronous video visits), eVisits, eConsults and Second Opinions. This role will coordinate all clinical, technical, business and regulatory activities around the Telehealth program. The Assistant Director Telehealth Initiatives is responsible for developing and implementing new areas of clinical utilization for Telehealth activities and developing business plans for new Telehealth opportunities. This position will serve as the liaison between ColumbiaDoctors digital health governance body and NYP Innovations Team, digital health leadership, participating medical staff, Information Services and operational personnel at the hospital and practices. The Assistant Director Telehealth Initiatives is responsible for developing and managing project plans, identifying key deliverables and resource requirements, develop project implementation plans, and identify, track and monitor performance metrics.
Manages, oversees, and facilitates all clinical, technical, business and regulatory activities around the Telehealth program.
Leads the development of ongoing services and expansion of Telehealth services. Develops and implements new areas of clinical utilization for Telehealth activities.
Identifies budgetary source of funding for each project and develops business plans for new Telehealth opportunities.
Develops and manages project plans: including key deliverables and resource requirements.
Maintains a working knowledge of all billing regulations and provides direction to departments and revenue cycle teams related to changes in regulations.
Develops and maintains project plans, schedules and priorities to ensure timely delivery of telehealth solutions
Establishes and maintains communication with telehealth project team, users, committees/work groups, vendors and management; keeps management and department apprised of project progress, milestones and issue resolution
Develops and monitors performance/outcome metrics and conducts analysis of existing Telehealth programs and services. Makes recommendations to management for alternative methods to enhance costs efficiencies, reassess the program's strategic direction, productivity, improved process performance and capital utilization. Tracks utilization of Telehealth encounters.
Monitors compliance with regulatory agency standards and requirements. Develops and maintains policies and procedures that ensure compliance and mitigate risk. Keeps abreast and is knowledgeable of applicable regulations and funding opportunities as well as standards to aid staff in achieving compliance with regulations and standards.
Develops, evaluates and manages budget for the Telehealth program.
Works closely with vendors with all aspect of Telehealth services provided at various locations.
Collaborates with CMO, CMIO and other FPO clinical leadership to evaluate and design best practice solutions for integration into Epic
Assists in the coordination of Telehealth services planning through active participation in clinical and outreach planning activities.
Collaborates with Medical staff and patients to facilitate safe and effective clinical consultations. Provides training to clinical staff in the proper use and operation of Telehealth equipment, specialized clinical equipment and accessories in order to facilitate successful clinical consultations.
Works with other Telemedicine programs to evaluate effective methods of clinical cooperation.
Schedules and conducts site visits with appropriate clinical and operation management across the FPO (Faculty Practice Organization) practice locations.
Performs supervisory functions by interviewing, selecting and providing training for new staff; by approving or disapproving recommendations from subordinate staff on personnel actions; by evaluating subordinates' performance; by hearing and resolving employee grievances; and by determining the need for and initiating disciplinary action in order to ensure adequate and competent staffing for the department.
Maintains current knowledge of field. Keeps abreast of emerging technological advancements of computerization and automation.
Develop reports in collaboration with Columbia and NYP analytics teams to monitor digital health utilization, such as overall volume, volume by use case, and no-show and cancellation rates. Identifies significant negative trends and reports such trends to management
Maintains oversight of all reporting and activities associated with digital health block grant
Provides direct administrative support to the Senior Director of Physician Relations Services as well as the ACMO for digital health solutions
Coordinates all digital health meetings, provides admin support for meetings, maintains minutes and distributes all meeting materials, agendas and minutes
Available as a resource to the clinical and ancillary departments to provide education and training on the use of telehealth services
Performs special projects and other duties as assigned
Requires bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus five years of related experience
Knowledge and clinical aptitude for proper and potential use of Telehealth services
Knowledge of principles and practices of organization, administration, fiscal and personnel management
Ability to communicate across diverse constituents; medical staff, office staff, technology specialists and government organizations
Ability to work independently and motivated to develop opportunities
Demonstrated presentation skills
Project management experience with accountability of coordinating multiple resources and delivering results based on plans and time tables
Knowledge and understanding of business practices, financial accounting and reimbursement issues
Ability to provide leadership and influence others
Ability to resolve conflicts and/or negotiate with others to achieve positive results; establish and maintain effective interpersonal relations
Experience in clinical operations, quality, and/or IT innovations a plus
