This position is responsible for the coordination, planning, and communication of the University Libraries' external messaging using multiple mediums and platforms in an online environment. This position provides complex professional production development for Libraries media activities. The University Libraries serves all disciplines and the greater UT community. This position is responsible for using independent judgment in writing original material, selecting subject matter, creating original content, and conducting research toward presenting a range of Libraries messaging in a clear, engaging, and appropriate manner that conforms to University guidelines. This position attends Libraries events outside of regularly scheduled work hours to document and publicize activities. This position works with all Libraries branches, departments, and individuals to coordinate messaging services and to communicate their offerings to the greater campus community. This position is responsible for the ongoing coordination and daily operations of the Libraries social media presence. This position creates original content in a variety of formats for public consumption.
External Communication *Plan, create, and coordinate proactive messaging about the activities, assets, and other stories of the University Libraries, carefully integrating them across several communication channels; pre-plan themes and topics for semester, creatively and gracefully work in unexpected stories *Media pieces: Co-create time-sensitive responses and articles on timely topics for campus and local media and beyond (which includes nights or weekends); lead creation of a set of basic media-focused assets; proactively plan and create responses for potential crises *Blog: Plan topics and themes, coordinate writers from throughout the University Libraries and guests, write content, oversee editing process and posting schedule *Email marketing: develop and refine contact lists, create and maintain a sending schedule, plan content and coordinate contributors, explore time-saving techniques *Social media: coordinate activities of personnel to expand and deepen engagement with audience through strategic interactions and promotions; create mini campaigns with elements that can be performed by direct-report; coverage of the University Libraries' events, including nights or weekends *Brand presence: Create and maintain a full, cohesive set of mobile promotional materials for outreach on campus and beyond; plan annual "swag" offerings that align with our mission and activities; plan complementary digital assets to aid in recognition of physical promotional materials
Team and Project Communication *Regularly meet with team head and members to develop project plans and coordinate tasks; maintain a team production calendar and project timelines; adjusting with real-time requests *Work with team to determine how members could best take the lead on writing and design projects and which tasks are best for delegation *Oversee personnel to edit, upload, and post content on various digital platforms, reviewing any decisions from external submissions *Delegate writing, design, and other tasks as needed; follow up with review and discussion of assignments *Create training and development opportunities for personnel to learn about Marketing and Communications guidelines and strategies *Track and measure time spent on projects for different departments by all parties in the team, balancing that with input from department head *Partner with front-end web developer to optimize opportunities to share the University Libraries' stories; assist with departmental content creation for website *Research and implement communications trends, tools, and methods to keep the University Libraries' communications current
Liaison to Other Departments *Regularly meet with other departments, branches, and individuals to determine best opportunities to share their stories *Present ideas and opportunities for communication and promotion to all departments; create plans for execution
Content, Conception, Planning, and Production *Plan editorial themes, integrated elements within themes for various platforms; create story assignments *Determine photography needs; plan photoshoots *Work with graphic designer to create brand consistency and to highlight short-term promotions with unique look/feels *Create and produce original and existing content themes and visual concepts for a strategic social media plan; implement and report on regular evaluation *Plan creation of video elements with Studio Manager to supplement communications plans
