COMPUTATIONAL RESEARCH SCIENTIST , Abdul Latif Jameel Clinic for Machine Learning in Health at MIT (J-Clinic) , to join the multidisciplinary Fraenkel Lab group. Will design an approach, using machine learning and computational biology, to predict performance on physical and cognitive tasks. The team will develop new algorithms for linking molecular data to performance on physical and cognitive tasks, including developing new methods for making predictions using data from relatively small populations ("big n, little p"). Responsibilities include participating in designing the collection of data from a cohort of volunteer athletes; overseeing junior computational staff; envisioning and drafting papers for publication in academic journals and preparing scientific components of the communication from MIT laboratories to the other members of the team inside MIT and with outside collaborators; and conducting and implementing research tasks and projects that will require independent judgment in the evaluation, selection, and substantial modification of standard techniques and procedures.
Job Requirements REQUIRED : Ph.D. in computer science, computational biology, or closely related field; four years' experience with algorithmic development and/or data analysis with demonstrable relevance to the project; working knowledge of biomedical data types; excellent leadership, supervisory, project management, interpersonal, relationship management, client service, and written and verbal communication and presentation skills; experience mentoring/supervising students/research staff; high-level independent decision making; and discretion and good judgment with confidential information/issues. Must be able to rapidly learn new skills; keep projects and deliverables on track, evaluating and revising as needed; promote collaboration and cooperation; and deliver oral presentations and prepare scientific papers. PREFERRED : solid track record publishing for conferences and journals about algorithmic or bioinformatics problems related to the project, and experience presenting research findings and developing successful technical proposals.
