Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Associate I for the Department of Neurosurgery at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Under the direction of a faculty member, the Research Associate is responsible for the independent conduct of a significant element of a larger research activity. This position designs and conducts highly specialized and technical research.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Performs various research, statistical analyses, and related operations relative to ongoing investigatory activities of a laboratory.
Analyzes and interprets experimental data and publishes results.
Competes for independent peer-reviewed external funding; and contributes to grant applications for the Assistant Director of Research.
Supervises residents, junior research assistants, graduate students, and student workers in the laboratory.
Actively collaborates with colleagues to develop research ideas; shares theoretical and technical expertise with colleagues; collaborates with colleagues to strategize and assess effectiveness of studies; collates and analyzes complex data.
Minimum Education and Experience:
PhD in Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Biology, or a related discipline; plus at least two (2) years of postdoctoral research experience.
Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the education requirements.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated competence in investigation, research and project management.
Theoretical and technical knowledge of the research subject matter; demonstrates the ability to independently form hypotheses; designs and performs experiments; develops new techniques and ability to conduct bench research with a low level of supervision; knowledge of computers and data analysis; ability to summarize and present research data.
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, ability to multi-task, and the ability to work well with others in a team environment.
