Detailed Job Description
As a core member of the GIS dedicated research team, this position will provide deep industry experience and technology know-how to conduct applied research and to help remanufacturing companies improve their competitiveness and profitability. The person in this position will leverage first-hand knowledge of remanufacturing, including engineering, manufacturing, and business processes, and lead outreach and project development activities with remanufacturing companies. This position will also actively lead technology development efforts in design for remanufacturing, cleaning, repair, and condition assessment (among other reman product and process improvements).
Develop, lead, and execute business plan for remanufacturing research activities. This includes, but is not limited to: developing business plan and projects for remanufacturing testbed, conducting outreach/business development and collaborating with GIS' marketing team to attract companies to the program, leading assessment f companies' remanufacturing processes
Build relationships with industrial customers and funding agencies
Lead the preparation of project proposals and project execution for remanufacturing technology development
Develop personal and organizational expertise in technical areas of remanufacturing; present and publish technical results of research and coordinate development and delivery of short course training programs
Lead technical teams of researchers and students in development of new remanufacturing technologies and capabilities
Required Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a Bachelors degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering. An advanced degree or equivalent additional experience (MS, MBA) is strongly preferred.
A minimum of 10 years of related work experience is required, with at least 3-5 years working on a remanufacturing product design or process development.
Hands-on industrial experience in a remanufacturing environment, either on the product design or process development.
Strong technical capability in degree area
Experience leading teams
Strong motivation to advance the state of the art in remanufacturing
Strong collaboration and communication, writing, project management, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills
Experience interacting with customers
Experience in writing proposals (internal corporate and/or state, federal, etc.)
Experience in a research/development role with a wide variety of products and remanufacturing processes
Experience in design, testing and/or remanufacturing of electrical components
Hands on experience with cleaning processes
Good understanding of remanufacturing financial and business models
Experience in product and process quality management
