The Department of Communication, Graphic Design & Multimedia seeks a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor in Digital Communication to support an undergraduate major in Digital Communication and Master's program in Communication and Digital Marketing. The successful candidate for this position will be able to teach traditional undergraduate and graduate courses in Digital Communication in both face-to-face and online delivery methods. The candidate will demonstrate evidence of excellence in teaching. The candidate should demonstrate a strong understanding of both millennial and adult learning styles and motivation; skills in the assessment, advising and mentoring of learners and the ability to deal effectively with individual differences in ability, personality and interests. The successful candidate would be passionate and knowledgeable about the field of digital communication, be able to guide students in their career planning, and be skilled in advising and assessment. Faculty members carry a four-course load per semester, with research and service expectations.
Integrate the Mercy Core Values of respect, compassion, integrity, justice and service in all aspects of interaction.
Teach 12 credits per fall and spring semesters (4-4) balanced between the undergraduate Digital Communication program and the Communication and Digital Marketing graduate program.
Pursuit of scholarly agenda in line with academic programming.
Regularly engage in activities supporting the continuous improvement of teaching, advising, courses, and programs.
Teach at the Lakewood campus, off site locations or in evening, if needed.
Teach in lecture, online, or hybrid modalities, if needed.
Collaborate with colleagues regarding course materials (developing or using common syllabi/course outlines).
Advise and mentor students.
Participate in university-wide service, departmental functions such as lectures, Open House, etc., and support co-curricular student activities.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Earned doctorate in Communication, Digital Media, Mass Communication, Media Studies, Visual Communication or Journalism or related field; ABDs close to completion will be considered.
Knowledge of communication, media studies, digital media, broadcast and/or print journalism, social media, digital communication, visual communication or related field required.
Demonstrated successful teaching experience at the college/university level.
Demonstrated knowledge of communication research methods- both quantitative and qualitative.
Demonstrated experience using and teaching students to use digital media content creation tools.
Ability to use instructional technologies effectively is essential;
