The Head of Portfolio and Operations Management (POM) for Data & Analytics (D&A) is key enabler of delivering the D&A portfolio which is aligned to the Otsuka corporate initiatives. The D&A portfolio comprises of strategic projects that deliver advanced analytics to empower business partners in R&D, Commercial and other functions with new insights to drive business outcomes. The POM is responsible for establishing, embedding and developing portfolio management methodologies, change management approaches and operational excellence practices to support an effective D&A operating model enabling the delivery of the D&A portfolio. Another key responsibility of the POM, is to ensure strong and productive collaborative relationships are developed with key internal stakeholders as well as with strategic vendor partners.
Reporting to the Chief Data & Analytics Officer (CDAO), and a member of the D&A Leadership Team, this leader will become a driving force of change and delivery across the Data & Analytics organization.
Provide leadership and oversight to the D&A portfolio management practices inclusive of sizing, prioritization, outsourcing strategies, communication and governance. Ensuring the appropriate resources are in place, considering both capability and capacity; and the necessary KPIs are in the place to support the measurement of impact.
Leads overall implementation of project management capabilities. This includes operating and monitoring mechanisms to enable D&A leadership and other key stakeholders/sponsors insights on the progress and the ability to identify areas that require intervention or are potential risks (e.g., dashboards for tracking of progress against roadmaps).
Leads D&A departmental governance reviews of portfolio and facilitate portfolio awareness and prioritization discussions. Provide regular score card and metrics reporting to empower D&A leaders with a data-driven understanding of the operational health of the organization.
Function as a knowledge base and resource to project teams. Serves as a point of escalation and resolution for the D&A strategic initiatives.
Fosters a culture that focuses on achievement of goals and personal accountability.
Establish a quality management capability to ensure a quality mindset and approach throughout the D&A operating model.
Coaches others to re-examine how things are done, challenging their assumptions about what is possible.
As a member of the D&A Leadership Team, models the balance of innovation and curiosity with discipline and structure. Is a champion of value-add change and evolution and is able to inspire and motivate others.
Accountable for managing effective collaborations and regular communications with sponsors for key D&A activities.
Serves as a central connector for both, external stakeholders as well as across D&A functions.
Oversees Vendor Management strategy and related activities including contracting, development of quality agreements, performance measures and assessment of internal vs external capability balance.
Knowledge/ Experience and Skills:
Experience working within the pharmaceutical industry or a highly regulated environment is preferred.
Top-flight consulting and/or organizational effectiveness (OD/change/process) management experience in organizations and situations requiring a combination of strategic vision, and practical project management and execution skills
Experience leading or sponsoring large and complex projects and familiar with (certification a plus) project management framework and tools
Experience driving large, complex change efforts and to drive results through influence, persuasion and relationships
Assesses quickly with a track record of getting up to speed and adding immediate value to new situations
Exceptional ability to co-create and work collectively with various business leaders and other key stakeholders
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to organize, conceptually interpret and clearly communicate material developed collaboratively via the input of multiple parties; translate complexity into the actionable
Effective influencing and negotiation skills
Up to 10% travel is required based upon business needs.
Bachelor's degree is required and graduate degree preferred. MBA or degree in a quantitative/scientific or related discipline is preferred.
Minimum 15 years of industry related experience within a quantitative or scientific field and business environment.
Minimum 5 years of leadership responsibilities required
Travel (approximately 10%)
