The Assistant Dean is the team lead of Student Engagement in the School of Public Health, reports to the Associate Dean of Education, and leads student services operations that serve the enrolled student experience. The position (university job classification, Student Services Manager 3, 9351M3) will: â— Collaborate with faculty program directors, coordinators, and student services staff to create an environment that is responsive, competent, welcoming and inclusive, and empowering for students. â— Develop a strategy for seamless collaboration between student services staff throughout the School of Public Health â— Oversee the success of staff supporting the enrolled student experience, particularly by fostering a collaborative environment of sharing and securing resources and knowledge to perform their roles, and providing opportunities to continuously develop by learning and applying innovative practices.
Student Engagement – 30% â— Provide strategic leadership and oversight for school-wide enrolled student events: â—‹ Student orientation and welcome events, including the design, oversight, and delegation of work to carry out these activities at a school-level and ensure alignment and support of program-level orientations â—‹ Commencement, including the design, oversight, and delegation of work to carry out the event and related activities â—‹ Partner with faculty leaders and others to lead Delta Omega activities â— Serve as the primary SPH liaison to the SPH Student Senate and support Student Services Center staff in their roles as liaisons to student groups, such as the Undergraduate Public Health Association and Diversity Matters â— Collaborate with Alumni Relations, Career Services, and others to actively support the mentor program to foster students’ career and professional development â— Foster partnerships with Academic Health Sciences, Graduate School, and University resources that support student success (e.g., Boynton Health, Disability Resource Center, Student Conflict Resolution Center, International Student and Scholar Services). â— Serve as the central contact for student mental health issues.
Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion – 10% â— Partner with the Associate Dean, Associate Director of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, and others within the university, health sciences, and divisions to create and carry out strategies and tactics to ensure representational diversity, equitable practices, and an inclusive learning environment
Leadership and Management – 60% â— Lead enrolled student services: â—‹ Establish a strategy to provide seamless support of success academically, personally, and professionally from matriculation to graduation â—‹ Establish clear and effective communication between all student services staff through the School of Public Health â—‹ Identify, encourage, and support opportunities for collaboration and sharing of expertise between student services staff throughout the School of Public Health â— Lead management of the SPH accreditation process â— Directly supervise Student Services Center positions, including: â—‹ Director of Career Services â—‹ Office Manager â—‹ Associate Director of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion â—‹ Applied Practice Experience Coordinator â— Manage the budget, schedule, and resources for enrolled student services â— Collaborate with program coordinators and staff to design and adopt an effective system to provide consistent high-quality student experience in all degree programs, â—‹ Define program coordinator and SSC staff roles and responsibilities in relation to enrolled students, including determining which services are best delivered on the School level and which services are best delivered on the program level; support the delivery of these student services and provision of resources. â—‹ Collaborate with divisions on the hiring and onboarding of program coordinators, including: setting joint plan, reviewing position descriptions, participating in the search process â—‹ Support and arrange for program coordinator continuing professional development related to the enrolled student experiences. â—‹ Apply constructive evaluation to support a high-performing team. â— Serve as a liaison between student services and the Education Policy Committee

Required qualifications â— Bachelor’s degree preferably in an education field or public health â— At least 10 years professional experience with increasing responsibility, including supervising, effective project management, and successful leadership â— Proven ability to successfully plan, organize, and evaluate the work of others â— Excellent oral and written communication skills â— Demonstrated strong commitment to student success, particularly students from non-traditional and marginalized backgrounds, including but not limited to students of color, indigenous students, students with disabilities, and LGBTQI+ students â— Demonstrated ability to collaborate with others to implement new practices and create buy-in organizationally â— Proven understanding of current national developments and best practices in the areas of student services delivery and advising and/or prior experience with student-focused work
Preferred qualifications â— Master’s degree preferably in higher education or public health â— Experience and success in planning and accomplishing strategic goals â— Experience in managing administrative and programmatic budgets â— Proven excellence in developing a highly effective team through excellence in hiring, managing, mentoring and thoughtful collaboration â— Demonstrated ability to analyze data and make recommendations informed by this analysis â— Demonstrated ability to engage, support, and guide staff without direct authority
