THIS IS NOT AN H1- B OPPORTUNITY Responsibilities The Trimmer Lab, in the Department of Physiology and Membrane Biology, seeks to hire a Staff Research Associate 3, who will work under the general supervision of the principal investigator to provide expertise in the conversion of the cryopreserved hybridoma archive into mRNA and then cDNA to be used for sequencing and for generation and validation of recombinant monoclonal antibodies (R-mAbs) and single chain variable fragments (ScFvs). Additionally, the Staff Research Associate 3 will also supervise junior lab staff in molecular biology, biochemical and immunochemical procedures and will also act as a project manager to coordinate details of project status, sample preparation for the associated core facilities, and associated consortium labs, and shipments to laboratory staff working on this project in those labs.
Master's degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Immunology, Neuroscience or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of academic education, research training and work experience. Experience and expertise in recombinant monoclonal antibody generation, characterization and validation procedures o Experience and expertise in molecular biology and protein biochemistry procedures.
Experience and expertise in using a team approach to conduct project work in a fast-paced high-throughput laboratory setting.
Skills to perform accurate mathematical calculations, to practice precise laboratory techniques and to manage laboratory supplies and equipment.
Skills to use computer software and other electronic tools for background research of nucleic acid and protein sequences, experimental procedures, etc.
Ability to perform detailed analyses of results, to keep neat and accurate records of all experimental details and to maintain organized storage of all data collected.
Ability to operate Macintosh and IBM computers and their associated interfacing software and hardware.
Ability to troubleshoot when necessary and to recognize problems to discuss with PI and other laboratory personnel.
Knowledge of and experience with laboratory safety and EH&S hazardous biological and chemical safety requirements.
Broad knowledge and understanding of solution chemistry, pH buffers, weights and osmolarity, as well as scientific knowledge at the general level.
Background in recombinant protein expression and engineering especially as related to recombinant antibodies.
Ability to train newly hired and inexperienced laboratory personnel in various aspects of nucleic acid isolation, amplification, cloning and sequencing, and protein expression as related to recombinant antibody generation and characterization procedures.
Experience in using, troubleshooting and maintaining automated high- throughput liquid-handling equipment and its associated hardware and software.
