Position Summary: Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Assistant Director Student Affairs for The Division of Student Affairs. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Major Events and Programs and is responsible for researching, planning, facilitating, and promoting a broad range of events, programs, opportunities, and initiatives that promote learning and enhance the overall educational development for our students. They are responsible for developing strategic alliances with other university departments such as New Student Orientation and Family Programs, Residence Life, Deans of Students, Rutgers University Alumni Association, Public Safety, Career Services, Dining Services, Facilities and Maintenance, Emergency Services, Community Affairs, University Libraries. Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Responsible for the support and coordination of large-scale Divisional and University wide collaborative programs such as Convocation/Carnivale, Homecoming, Senior Days, and Parent and Family Weekend. Responsible for the recruitment, hiring, development, and coordination associated with selecting student volunteers, staff and teams for the Rutgers University Programming Association (RUPA) . Directly supervises a graduate student and undergraduate interns, and is responsible for development, facilitation and assessment of all student leader training and retreat curriculum. In addition, they directly advise one or more RUPA programming committees. Provides speaker and program development support to areas/departments within the Division of Student Affairs. Manages the scheduling and room/space reservations for RUPA and overall Major Events. Serves as a representative on the Division of Student Affairs Assessment Learning Community (ALC) whose mission is to cultivate an evidence-based and outcomes-driven culture of assessment that leverages data to inform decisions, practice, and the holistic student experience. Responsible for researching best practices and implementing a variety of assessment strategies to set the standards for data collection and reporting throughout the department. Responsible for aligning learning outcomes with all curriculum and programmatic initiatives and has the opportunity to work in collaboration with Director of Major Events and Programs, Senior Director for Student Engagement, and departmental ALC representatives to drive departmental assessment goals and planning initiatives.Minimum Education and Experience: Master's degree in student affairs administration, higher education, or a related field or discipline. Minimum of 3 years of experience working in student life with experience in leadership development, program implementation, training, and assessment.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong communication, presentation, administrative, technical and detail-oriented organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to work with a highly diverse population. Team and training/facilitation skills; problem solving in a highly active environment; and the ability to complete multiple and concurrent tasks Proven experience in the development of strong strategic partnerships with student affairs and academic affairs departments. Supervisory skills, training experience and fiscal management are essential. Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver's license would be required for this position.Preferred Qualifications: Preferred 3-5 years of experience Experience in assessment and/or program evaluation, knowledge of assessment processes, and student learning outcomes Demonstrated successful experience in programming for diverse populations. Proficiency with various technology platforms and applications e.g. google, Sakai/Canvas, etc. and preferred familiarity with Campus Labs Engage platform and survey systems (Baseline/Google Forms), preferred.Equipment Utilized: Skilled in presentation software such as PowerPoint as well as online data collection tools such as Baseline and CollegiateLink.
