THIS IS NOT AN H1- B OPPORTUNITY ResponsibilitiesThe Director of the Patient Flow Management Center has 24-hour responsibility for Staffing, Bed Planning, Special Duty Caregivers, Mental Health Workers and Tele-Sitters. Staffing manages day to day staffing operations for UC Davis Health and is the department of record for legal documentation of attendance and staffing levels. Bed Planning is responsible coordination of all bed assignments and appropriate placement of patients to maximize bed use, patient throughput, and resource utilization. Special Duty Caregivers, Mental Health Workers and Tele-Sitters provide one-to-one, continuous, video, or intermittent observation to patients with behavioral health needs manifesting in acute risk behaviors with the goal of preventing harm to the patient or staff using a therapeutic approach to ensure the care, welfare, safety and security of the patient. The incumbent is the Systems Administrator for ANSOS One Staff Scheduling System and Web Scheduler and is responsible for oversight the Patient Property Room.This position provides strategic and managerial level technical advice to the Executive Director and Chief Nursing Officer in matters relating to bed planning and staffing logistics and is responsible for identifying and implementing the short- and long-term patient flow strategy for the medical center in collaboration with key stakeholders. The Director is responsible for leading the Patient Flow Management Center to achieve quantifiable results that ultimately improve hospital efficiency, patient safety, and patient experience. The Director provides direction and consultation for patient placement using clinical care requirements; communicates with unit staff, managers, physicians, and administration regarding patient flow as needed; and participates in daily patient flow meetings/huddles/communications specifically related to staffing and bed resource allocation. The Director has direct/indirect management and oversight for Patient Flow Management Center's Nursing Services Supervisors, clinical staff, para-technical supervisors, and staff. The Director is responsible for the daily twenty-four (24) hour planning, organizing, directing and controlling of the daily operations and clinical practice of assigned areas, in order to provide quality, individualized patient care and support of Medical Center philosophies. The Director will lead staff to model a professional practice environment by: providing a clinically competent staff; encouraging strong interdisciplinary team collaboration and communication; supporting autonomy and accountability; providing staff opportunities for in-service and formal education; stressing the importance of continuous learning; and supporting a culture where concern for the patient is paramount. The Director assumes fiscal responsibility through preparation of unit budgets, supports research, participates in both long- and short-term strategic planning, and assures patient advocacy. The Director is accountable to the Executive Director, Patient Care Services. REQUIRED - Minimum of 2 years of progressive nursing management experience
- Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with a Master's Degree or Master's degree in related field.
- Current license as a registered nurse in the State of California
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, conflict management, and communication skills
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in quality improvement methodology and project management
PREFERRED - Formal training in lean management or six sigma
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT - Working knowledge of applicable Standards of Practice
- Knowledgeable and proficient in the use of health care technology within specialty area
- Demonstrates a commitment to customer service and an ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients and health care colleagues.
