Job Description The Thompson Lab has an open position for a project scientist with expertise in cerebrovascular and systems biology with a focus on data analysis and coordination of large biological datasets. Candidate must have experience with modeling both Huntington's disease and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis using iPSCs. The incumbent will be responsible for supporting several projects that focus on multi-cellular iPSC modeling of neurodegeneration and the neurovascular unit by coordinating and helping with strategic planning of projects objectives, and helping generate hypotheses based on data from multi-omic analyses of iPSC models. The incumbent will also be involved in training graduate students and postdoctoral fellows with multi-omic data sets and help with analysis and visualization of data sets for laboratory publications. The incumbent should also have expertise in analysis of single cell and single nuclei RNASeq data sets. Additionally, he or she will help lead collaborative efforts in design and implement of a large scale multi-center study on ALS by analyzing and integrating molecular, behavioral, and clinical data from ALS patients. He or she will also develop internal pipelines for experimental analysis, data generation/analysis, and will help to develop a web-based LIMS system. Incumbent is required to have strong public speaking ability and will be required to regularly organize and present scientific data at international conferences and collaborative meetings.
Requirements The Candidate must posses a doctoral degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent and have experience with modeling both Huntington's disease and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis using iPSCs. The Candidate must be knowledgeable in cerebrovascular biology and neurodegeneration, have strong skills in data analysis and integration of RNAseq, ATACseq, and ChIPseq data, and experience in project management. Also required is a strong publication record, advanced writing skills, experience with grant writing, including R01 grants, and a proven record of success in obtaining grant funding. Candidates must be able to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams and to manage scientific projects within a complex organization; therefore, excellent interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills are essential. This position will be appointed at the level that is commensurate with the education and experience of the individual candidate.
