Schedule: Monday through Friday, 20 to 29 hours per week (mostly during afternoons and early evenings with occasional weekend hours)

The Advisor in Student Central provides financial aid advising and support services for all prospective, new, and continuing students. Advisors assist students with identifying resources needed to address their individual circumstances and potential barriers to enrollment and retention at the College, as well as graduation and/or transfer from the College. Advisors work closely with other Student Central staff members, Academic Advising, Admission, Enrollment Services Operations, and other colleagues to coordinate additional services according to the needs of the students to which they provide assistance.
Explains the financial aid application process and assists students and families from pre-application through disbursement of funds. Guides students and families in aid eligibility and use, including planning for use of funds and loan repayment beyond Columbus State. Counsels students in regard to financial aid impacts of dropping classes and/or poor academic performance. Works with students to identify and document unusual circumstances that may warrant dependency, resource, and unusual enrollment history appeals. Connects students with College and community resources to assist with meeting academic and non-academic needs. Serves as financial aid point person to assist special student populations such as students in a designated cohort, veterans, foster youth, homeless students, victims of domestic violence and human trafficking. Collaborates with colleagues, high schools, and business and community partners to provide financial aid presentations and workshops.
Provides direct student and applicant service, counseling students in person, over the phone, and electronically. Guides students in the use of online applications and tools. Assists business partners from other College departments with questions, paperwork, and tasks to address student needs. Respond to email inquiries inclusive of SAP, Financial Aid and normal work email account; send emails to students relating to appeal decisions and or follow up on additional items needed.
Completes and maintains required documentation; Keeps accurate records. Reviews and verifies and, where applicable completes dependency overrides, and special circumstance professional judgments, determines decision for SAP appeals, conducts UEH reviews, and completes other processes. Maintains confidentiality of student files and other sensitive subject matter. Collects and maintains student contact for reporting purposes.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages multiple assignments of varying complexity while meeting federal as well as internal regulations and procedures, with the ability to adapt to changing needs of the College and business partners. Hours may include working outside of a normal workweek schedule. Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required.

The employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into computer, frequently sits for extended periods of time, and occasionally stands and walks. Employee occasionally reaches with hands or arms and stoops, kneels, crouches or crawls when installing hardware or software. Employee converses verbally with others in person and by telephone. Vision demands include close, detailed vision when focusing on computer screen. Employee occasionally lifts computers or other items or exerts up to 25 pounds. Employee utilized hands and feet to operate motor vehicle through College property.

Minimum Qualifications: An appropriate combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Minimum qualifications for this position are: Bachelor's Degree in counseling or closely related field of study, and one to three years' experience in the assigned functional area.

About Columbus State Community College
Columbus State Community College has been meeting the diverse educational needs of the Central Ohio community for more than 50 years. The college is proud to be an important contributor to the growth and progress of the region and to serve as the front door to higher education in Central Ohio. From the first graduating class in 1965 through this year, 50,000 students have earned associate degrees in 50-plus technical fields and academic transfer programs. Columbus State also offers Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degree programs whose coursework fulfills the freshman and sophomore year requirements for bachelor’s degree programs offered by four-year colleges and universities throughout the state.
