Job Description: The College The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all aspects of volunteer engagement in carrying out the vision and mission of the Mid-Ohio Market to support Columbus State Community College students and the community. The position will recruit volunteers for food bank programs and activities; plan, coordinate and supervise projects in the market; arrange for volunteer support of market operations, and projects requiring skilled volunteers; and establish recognition programs for volunteers. The Volunteer Coordinator is expected to adhere to and to train volunteers working with food products on proper food handling including cleaning and sanitizing in accordance with the Serv Safe food handling requirements. Core Competencies Required Professionalism, Managing Work, Continuous Improvement, Customer/Student/Employee Focus, Collaboration, Adaptability, Communication, Coaching, Energy, Quality Orientation, Relationship Building, Positive Approach, Planning and Organizing ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Volunteer Leadership and Recruitment Recruit and select volunteers for projects and programs; Assess skill sets of volunteers to ensure proper project selection; Develop skills based volunteer program; Collect and coordinate requests for volunteers; Track volunteer hours and related information in database. Responsible for providing first-line management to department employees or managing a program area w/o direct supervision; Determine and assign resources including the development of work processes and participates in performance management of employees within the department. Will consult with the Manager on operational and financial matters. Has decision making authority as to how work is carried out within the parameters of available resources. Responsibilities may include an external focus as well as internal. Project Coordination Plan, schedule, and implement projects; Prioritize and organize work load including project requests; Develop and establish processes for repacking of products; Establish timelines for projects adequately forecasting volunteer needs based on project timing and needs; Schedule and assign volunteers to projects; Set up projects including design of work areas; Ensure proper materials and packing supplies are readily available; Train volunteers on proper food handling and standards; Schedule volunteers in accordance with project needs; Supervise volunteer work assignments throughout the project duration; and Collaborate internally on volunteerism projects to ensure effective service delivery. Community Engagement Attend volunteer network meetings; Engage community in volunteer opportunities within the program; Give market tours to potential volunteers and the general public; Enhance program efforts through effective partnerships with individuals and organizations; and Participate as needed in programming efforts by serving as an effective committee member. Other Duties and Responsibilities Assist volunteers as needed in repacking of products; assists in warehouse and office as needed; ensure work area is cleaned and sanitized in accordance with Serv Safe standards; attend meetings and trainings as required. Usual Physical Requirements While performing duties of this job, the employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into computer. The employee regularly stands and walks for extended periods of time, and occasionally sits. Employee converses verbally with others in person and by telephone. Employee occasionally reaches with hands or arms, climbs or balances and stoops, kneels, crouches or crawls. Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision when focusing on a computer screen. Employee occasionally lifts or exerts force of up to 50 pounds when moving market product, files, boxes and other materials. Working Conditions Food storage and grocery environment in addition to office environment. Regular exposure to moderate noise typical to these environments. May work in refrigerated areas meaning exposure to temperatures as low as 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of: Food storage and Serv Safe standards; standard practices within area of specialization; communication and relationship-building strategies; customer service and public relations principles; community college philosophy and operations; standard office practices and procedures. Ability to: Appreciate diversity and work effectively with persons of varying cultures and backgrounds; develop and maintain positive and productive working relationships with associates, supervisors, students and faculty, and general public; answer routine inquiries in-person or by phone; work independently, demonstrating initiative and follow-through, as well as work as part of a larger team; organize and manage multiple tasks; demonstrate flexibility; maintain confidential and sensitive information; maintain accurate and complete work records. Skill in: Verbal and written communications; multitasking and planning; scheduling, organizing work; maintaining good public relations and excellent customer service; follow-up; problem solving; application of job software programs; general typing and administrative work; operating general office equipment. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree with at least three (3) years of prior experience working with volunteers; Serv Safe Certification and Serv Safe training within 60 days of employment. *An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework and experience may qualify a candidate. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s). Additional Information: The Volunteer Coordination is responsible for volunteer recruitment and engagement. The position will recruit volunteers for the Mid-Ohio Market (MOM) at Columbus State operational hours, programs and activities; arrange for volunteer support of office and Market operations, facility maintenance, and projects requiring skilled volunteers; and establish recognition programs for volunteers. The incumbent to adhere to and to train volunteers working with food products on proper food handling including cleaning and sanitizing in accordance with the ServSafe standards.
