Program Coordinator - EXCEL Program, Honors College 13494
The Experiential and Community Engaged Learning (EXCEL) Program in the Honors College at West Virginia University invites applications for the position of Program Coordinator. This position supports the mission of the Honors College by assisting students through the application process and throughout their enrollment in the program.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
* Recruit and advise students applying for the Honors EXCEL program through conducting workshops and information sessions, organizing and distributing program information, convening and coordinating with faculty mentors and academic advisers, and managing logistical aspects of application and abstract submission processes. * Assist students with developing project ideas and preparing applications for the program including one-on-one meetings to provide application feedback. * Develop out-of-class experiences (OCEs) or coordinate with other WVU offices to provide OCEs that assist students in project management, project development and project communication. * Manage, coordinate and track financial support provided by the EXCEL program for student projects. * Maintain internal student records and track student progress through the program. * Represent (along with the Director of EXCEL and the Honors College administrators) the Honors College and its programming to internal and external constituencies. * Participate in programmatic assessment, such as exit interviews or surveys of students, mentors and community partners. * Attend conferences and other professional development events. Present about the Honors EXCEL program at external events. * Serve on college/university committees as appropriate. * Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with units inside WVU, especially the Office of Undergraduate Research, the ASPIRE office, the Center for Service and Learning, the Office of Global Affairs and Career Services. * Develop content for Honors EXCEL website and social media accounts * Correspond with Honors EXCEL program alumni and track their future pursuits. * Teach and/or design course curriculum for one Honors course (3-credit course or equivalent) per year.
* Master's degree required (non-STEM background preferred, but not required). * At least 2-years of experience working in higher education * At least 2-years of experience working with budgets and accounting * At least 2-years of demonstrated experience in building collaborative relationships with campus and community * Strong writing and editing skills * Strong managerial skills * Strong teaching skills * Strong public speaking and interpersonal skills * Strong mentoring and advising skills * Strong computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office * Ability to learn quickly institutionalized programs such as Banner, STAR, Clean Slate, etc. * Ability to work on interdisciplinary teams * Knowledge of first-generation, low-income, and ethnic minority students * Ability to work independently and to use discretion in decision-making * Administrative decision making and problem solving
