The Campus Design and Facility Development (CDFD) team at Carnegie Mellon University is responsible for the planning, acquisition, design, construction and renovation of university facilities. We are searching for a Contract Specialist to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity if you thrive in an interesting and challenging work environment. In this role, you will be responsible for working closely with the project manager and operations to ensure procurement and contract compliance related to financial, legal, and business terms in the documents. This will include drafting design, consulting and construction contracts and then processing the corresponding commitments for payment, monitoring schedule and budget compliance and resolving audit findings as needed.
Reporting to the Contracts and Procurement Manager, you will also provide the manager with comprehensive reports on the status of contract documents, payments, and change management for design and construction projects. You will be involved in the cradle-to-grave lifecycle of agreements, contract and purchasing documents, and is responsible for ensuring that all documents are fully executed, tasks in the system's queue are completed on a timely basis, and that actions are properly documented.
Core responsibilities will include:
Preparing design and construction agreements, ranging widely in breadth and complexity, as well as related contract documents, such as request for proposals, statements of work, project timelines change orders and Contract amendments.
Preparing and submitting the corresponding commitments with detailed cost code break down to comply with the contract documents.
Working closely with project managers, and finance for capital project procurement, and with the Office of General Counsel for the review of contract documents.
Collaborating with the project manager in developing project specifications and compiling drawings and supporting documentation for incorporation and/or reference in agreements and contract documents.
Performing substantive review of all such project information provided for consistency, clarity and completeness.Must proactively resolve issues identified in such reviews.Assists project manager in reviewing bids, and proposals against procurement requirements.
Interfacing with the Office of General Counsel, Insurance Services, University Contracts, Operations, and Finance (Procurement specifically) to ensure that all agreements and commitments are accurate, complete and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and university contracting and procurement guidelines.

Bachelor's degree required.
Minimum five years of related and relevant experience required.
Intermediate level skill with Microsoft Office suite and knowledge of Oracle financials preferred.
