The Lab of Jerry Chen at Boston University is hiring an Optical and Software Specialist to be involved in several multi-year BRAIN Initiative related NIH and NSF funded projects. These projects focus on understanding cortical computation during behavior by combining large-scale population recordings, anatomical reconstructions, and transcriptional profiling as well as developing tools for large-scale and high-speed imaging of neuronal populations. We are seeking an individual who can maintain and oversee the laboratory infrastructure and provide technical support to aid in research activities. Primary duties will include:
1) Assisting in the construction and maintenance of instrumentation for optical recording/stimulation and behavior control/monitoring.
2) Developing and maintaining software for data analysis and instrument control and automation for neuroscience applications.
3) Developing and maintaining information technology for data management and processing.
4) Helping to manage lab safety and regulatory permits, grant budgets, and purchasing of equipment and supplies.
Ideal candidates should have wide-ranging expertise in several of the following techniques: two-photon imaging, optical engineering, software engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering, and data analysis. We are seeking individuals with experience in project management, ability to promote a team-driven research environment, and excellent oral and written communication skills. At least two years of commitment is required. Programming skills are required in a few of the following languages: LABView, MATLAB, C++, and Python.
Our lab is located on the Charles River Campus and is affiliated with the Department of Biology and Department of Biomedical Engineering. We have active collaborations and interactions with labs in the greater neuroscience community in the Boston area including the Center for Systems Neuroscience and Center for Neurophotonics at Boston University as well as Harvard Medical School and MIT.
Master's degree & 5-8 years' of experience required.
