This position is responsible for the financial operations of Washington University IT, including 1) financial reporting and analysis, budgeting and forecasting 2) compliance with University, Federal, and International and other requirements, regulations and policies, 3) liaison and resource for department directors and managers regarding budget and financial issues and 4) backup for transaction approval and oversight.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting and Analysis.
Prepare financial reporting packages for directors and/or managers analyzing and highlighting significant budget and year over year variances.
Serve as the primary contact for directors and/or managers, providing requested information, resolving issues and providing guidance and direction of the financial impact of new initiatives.
Hold monthly meetings with directors and/or managers to discuss issues/initiatives in their areas with budgetary impacts.
Work with the Manager of IT Budget to prioritize expenditures and identify opportunities for savings to meet unanticipated needs without exceeding their annual budget.
Determine reporting needs and create customized user reports that are tailored to specific operational needs.� Remain current in new applications to ensure effective and efficient delivery of information.
Analyze income and expenses, make investigations, assemble data and prepare projections and reports for planning and decision making.
Scope includes WashU IT operating accounts and all WashU IT capital and non-capital projects.
Budgeting and Forecasting.
Provide assistance and support to Manager IT Budget in developing annual departmental budget.
Provide summarized and detailed reports on historical, current and projected activity noting significant variances.
Document and track budget, actuals to date, and forecasted end of year positions in a profit and loss type format for individual units, by service, by project, and for WashU IT department consolidated.
Develop dashboard type format of information for managers and directors to access their budget and forecast as needed.
Work with Manager IT Budget and Executive Director Portfolio and Project Management to maintain long term forecast of capital projects budgets and forecast of required additional operating expenses.
Other responsibilities may include some or all of the following:
Serve as backup for the Manager of IT Budget.
Assist with revenue and expense account reconciliations.
Perform document processing functions as needed.
Assist with salary budgeting, reporting and analysis.
Work with University Central Finance Operations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance or a related field.
Three to five years of professional accounting experience.
Experience in budgeting, reporting and analysis with the ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on developed information.
Strong financial/transactional operations and workflow experience.
Strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
Excellent spreadsheet, word processing and database management skills.
Experience in an academic environment and knowledge of fund accounting.
Experience with the Washington University Financial/Administrative Information System, Cognos/RAPS and Hyperion Enterprise.
Self-motivated individual with the ability to work independently.
Strong problem-solving and accounting skills in addition to excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
Excellent customer service skills.
Demonstrated ability to use discretionary judgment and maintain confidentiality in working with financial and budget information.
Ability to work with a variety of people (i.e., faculty, staff, students, other University contacts, etc.).
The hiring range for this position is $51,293 - $66,685 annually.
