The University of Saint Joseph's Culture, Arts and Languages Department invites applications for a tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor in the new undergraduate degree program in Digital Media and Communication with two concentrations: Spanish Communication and Sport Communication. The ideal candidate will have expertise in Digital Media and Communication in order to direct, implement, and teach courses such as Social Media in Contemporary Society, Introduction to Mass Communication, Graphic Arts and Digital Design, Video Production, or Video Editing. Bilingual English-Spanish competency and/or experience in Sport Media will strongly desirable to teach courses in the major concentrations once a semester. The new faculty member is expected to have leadership and collegial skills to be able to work with members of other departments, i.e., Business Administration, and basic administrative experience to lead the program.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Direct, implement, and help to promote the new program in Digital Media and Communication.
Teach up to 3 classes per semester in Digital Media and Communication.
Preference will be given to applicants with competency in Spanish and/or Sport media to teach one course a semester for the concentration.
The successful candidate will be expected to establish a research and/or creative program leading to publications, productions and possibly external funding with the potential of involving undergraduate Digital Media and Communication majors.
Ph.D. or M.F.A. in communication, video production or related fields.
Demonstrated success in teaching media production courses with an emphasis on social media, visual communication, media and cultural studies, and multimedia and bilingual storytelling techniques.
Demonstrated potential to develop a strong body of scholarship or creative work.
Professional experience with journalism, social media or video production a plus.
Bilingual competency to teach in Spanish and English, strongly desirable.
Cultural competency to work with diverse student and/or employee population
