The Communications Specialist will develop and assist in implementing strategic content and communications for the association as well as help to build awareness for the AARC brand and for the respiratory care profession.
The position will require a strong writer and creative thinker who understands corporate and/or non-profit communication, web publishing and tracking content performance shared through the web and email, social channels with the goal of driving traffic, awareness and qualified leads.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:
Builds the News Now e-newsletter weekly in Informz
Assists with additional emails as needed.
Creates email templates as needed.
Content & Communications
Writes targeted content (such as news stories, emails, press releases, and website content) that capture the audience's attention and inspires action.
Partners with marketing, membership, education, convention and publication teams to determine topics and source information for content development and ensures the quality, consistency, accuracy, and timeliness of content.
Identifies media opportunities and implement campaigns around key programs and issues, including monitoring media cycles and updating media lists.
Conversational writing style with the ability to infuse personality into all messaging.
Creative thinker who enjoys writing compelling content and stories with ability to clearly articulate information.
Drafts and edits press releases, works with internal team members to develop media pitches and story crafting.
Thorough and practical understanding of communications best practices and issues management.
Defines, implements and measures communication strategies, messages, processes, tools, techniques, and delivery approaches.
Familiar with AP style guidelines and a keen attention to detail.
Makes weekly News Now e-newsletter story posts in Wordpress.
Reaches out to members, freelance writers and contributors for story ideas.
Shares weekly News Now articles on social media.
Assists Digital Media Specialist with social media content ideas if needed.
Posts in AARConnect platform as needed to stay connected with members or conduct research etc.
Builds MarCom lists and reports as needed to share with Informz email platform or other purposes as required.
Understanding of web publishing requirements, Google Analytics, SEO best practices and/or experience with WordPress or other CMS to assist with posting articles on Wordpress.
Understands website and architecture, content, linking, and other factors to improve SEO positions for target keywords.
Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Assists with marketing, conventions and membership initiatives where necessary.
Contributes to other special projects as needed such as awards ceremony at Congress, etc.
Bachelor's degree in communications or journalism or a related field
Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes
Proficient with Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc.)
Must possess customer service skills
Working knowledge of SEO and keyword search
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to change well
Strong initiative to solve problems and detail-oriented
Excellent writing skills
Wordpress experience preferred
Experience with SEO tools, Google analytics
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite a plus
Microsoft Dynamics 365 or CRM experience a plus, Informz or other email platform a plus
Must be willing to travel @ least once a year
Required Length and Type of Experience
2-3 years of professional communications experience required. Health care or nonprofit experience preferred.
