The Department of Access Services (DAS) provides Interpreting, Notetaking, and Real-Time Captioning services to the RIT community so that all members can enjoy full access to communication.
Access Services enables more than 650 deaf and hard-of-hearing RIT students to register and fully participate in roughly 23,000 credit hours annually in more than 200 highly competitive academic programs. Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearing students alike use Access Services to communicate with each other in a variety of extra-curricular activities associated with student clubs and organizations, entertainment and sports events and RIT programs and services.
Detailed Job Description
Video pre-production planning; this includes initiating production meetings within the Department of Access Services (DAS), working with a diverse group of individuals to map and plan the project in advance of actual production. Planning also includes supervising and scheduling workflow.
Video production, including multi-camera set-ups; lighting; sound and videography for staff interpreter skills assessments, video bio's/introductions and exit interviews. Responsible for obtaining and maintaining waivers from all participants in video and photo assignments.
Video post-production workflow, including assembly, editing, color grading, keying, titling, rendering, closed and open subtitling and captioning. Responsible for file management, storage and archival of digital and printed media.
Web design/development to continue the development and dissemination of current and future projects. Manage and maintain front end graphics for the Professional Development Program (PDP) website.
Work with staff interpreters and captionists to develop E-portfolios. Design and produce internal DAS presentations; design and develop posters, brochures and other printed media for use within and outside of DAS. Partner with staff in interpreting and captioning to develop, produce, edit and maintain videos, YouTube links, online sites and printed materials for DAS. Investigate and initiate use of podcasts to share information.
Maintain a social media presence; this includes familiarity with Facebook, Twitter and Instagram platforms, as well as investigating other social media sharing services.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Minimum education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Minimum of three (3) years of experience working in videography/visual communication design.
Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) or willingness to learn
Ability to work as part of the production team or independently
Good interpersonal skills, ability to interact and communicate clearly with a diverse group of people, including deaf and hearing staff and consumers
Ability to direct multi-camera studio equipment and video switching
Generate and insert on-screen text and graphics into video clips
Experience in audio recording and editing
Intermediate knowledge of photography and related equipment
Ability to perform routine video and audio equipment maintenance
Ability to perform in the field or remote locations
Ability to operate portable equipment and work with other production staff in pre-production planning and production
Possess advanced knowledge of Microsoft suite and Adobe suite of programs, HTML and CMS knowledge and a proven ability to leverage input from stakeholders
Ability to adapt duties to the environment in which you are working; ability to multi-task, manage and balance multiple projects is imperative.
Ability to communicate in American Sign Language (ASL) at a basic level and possess above average ASL receptive skills; knowledge of the Deaf community and Deaf culture.
