Under minimal supervision, will support the Caltech Facilities Operations & Maintenance Department by preparing As-Built drawings using AutoCAD. Will produce complex technical drawings using notes, symbols, blocks, legends, dimensioning and other standard engineering components.
Job Duties - Creates and updates electronic AutoCAD drawing files to provide 'as-built' documentation of Caltech's facilities from project documents & drawings, sketches, shop drawings and/or field verification - Produces complex technical drawings of existing facilities systems (electrical, mechanical, piping, etc.) for use in ongoing facilities operations - Facilitates field verification of utilities and equipment within Buildings, Central Plant, Laboratories, and Tunnel environments - Coordinates drawings across multiple disciplines (e.g. electrical, mechanical, plumbing, architectural, etc.) - Manages development of drawings within Caltech's document management electronic database system - Works closely with Caltech Designers, Drafters, Project Managers and Engineers to ensure design accuracy - Support computer systems software, Preventative Maintenance and equipment asset database - Performs other duties as assigned
- Must have an Associates degree or equivalent experience (equivalent experience Is equal to a High School Diploma/GED plus 2 years of relevant experience) - Must have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience In AutoCAD within the facilities, electrical, mechanical and piping trades - Must be able to read, understand, and interpret architectural/engineering design documents and drawings; Including common notes and symbols, particularly within electrical, mechanical, and piping engineering trades - Must be able to climb ladders up the heights of 10 feet, navigate confined underground tunnel spaces, and lift a minimum of 25 lbs - Proficient latest versions of AutoCAD with a strong understanding of AutoCAD standards - Ability to visually compare design drawings, or other engineering documentation, to ascertain relevance, accuracy, and age for development of As-Built drawings - Capacity to understand and apply computer and software operations, Instructions, and procedures as well as create/annotate drawings with a very high degree of accuracy with high throughput and minimum supervision - Must use problem solving and critical thinking skills to effectively create detailed documents/drawings with fragmented information - Solid understanding of drafting techniques and engineering terminology including title blocks, symbols, legends, dimensioning, and other standard engineering components - Have good working knowledge within AutoCAD related to layer management, blocks, paper space, model space, view ports, and x refs, as well as usage of drawing scales as they relate to text dimensions, lines, viewports, plotting, plot scales, pen tables,' etc.
Preferred Qualifications - Must be proficient with Microsoft Office - AutoCAD Certification (with verifiable credentials) preferred
