The APUE Assistant Dean for Student Success Assessment and Strategic Initiatives, Specialist-Outreach, provides leadership for and coordination of student success and undergraduate education strategic initiatives to support the university's mission and priorities. This person steers and project manages the university-wide student success priority projects and assessments each year through a collaborative process that identifies, facilitates and drives key strategic initiatives through inception, implementation, and evaluation. The Assistant Dean also leads efforts to produce APUE annual assessments, strategic planning, and student success reports that are shared institutionally, regionally, and nationally. This person serves as a consultant to help units create assessment plans including defining measurable goals, identifying appropriate outcomes, determining measurement methods, and synthesizing learning. Supervises APUE Student Success Analyst and University Innovation Alliance Fellow.
Serves as key strategist with the APUE to set and assess university wide student success strategic initiatives each year to support the university's mission and strategic priorities
Steer and project manage the university wide student success priority projects each year through a collaborative process
Identify, facilitate and drive key strategic initiatives from inception to implementation
Plan, coordinate, and assess the Student Success Launch each Fall
Provide support to decision makers for translating planning, outcomes, institutional data, and research results into strategic initiatives
Facilitate the College Student Success Group
Partner with Institutional Research to set, measure and monitor institutional Key Performance Indicators for student success
Work to infuse student success in university priorities and strategic plans
Responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive assessment and planning process within the APUE division including creating assessment and planning policies, initiatives, and structures
Serve as a consultant to help units create assessment plans including defining measurable goals, identifying appropriate outcomes, determining measurement methods, and synthesizing learning
Provide expertise and assistance to staff in making data informed decisions and utilizing assessment results to make recommendations for program and policy changes through resource creation, consultation, and professional development trainings
Leads efforts to produce annual assessment, strategic planning, and student success reports
Serve as a lead on the Spring Conference planning team
Represent the division on assessment, strategic planning, and student success projects, committees, or workgroups as needed
Doctorate -Higher Education, Education Policy or re
PhD in higher education, education policy or related field.
Ten years of experience in higher education in both institutional research, assessment, project management, or planning and student affairs or student success.
Past experience managing complex change initiatives in a collaborative and consensus building environment.
Demonstrated experience and ability to work collaboratively and constructively with people at multiple levels and in diverse roles (faculty, staff, lecturers, post-docs, graduate students, undergraduate students) and with diverse perspectives.
Experience proactively cultivating new and innovative approaches and solutions to student success problems and achieving diversity, equity, and inclusion goals. Knowledge of assessment methods and activities including outcome creation, assessment design, survey creation, and qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
Strong interpersonal communication skills, including experience working across institutional units and experience at both the college and university level.
The ability to communicate complex concepts effectively to a variety of audiences in both written and verbal format.
Past experience planning large scale university events.
Experience applying change management principles to effectively lead and navigate change in a non-hierarchial environment.
Ability to pivot between strategy development and tactical deployment.
