The Vice President of Business Development will oversee complex physician relationships and large-scale physician recruitment initiatives and act as the physician liaison for Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center. New business development by initiating contact with prospective physicians or following up on leads for potential relationships will be required for Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center. The Vice President of Business Development oversees new program and service development and current program management to increase volume. Collaboration with the Director of Marketing for advertising and promotion of the hospital will be required for some initiatives. Additional responsibilities that include but are not limited to participation in community activities and others that would add to the public awareness of the hospital.

The Vice President of Business Development is responsible for recruiting quality-trained physicians for Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center, cultivating relationships with physicians, and act as the facility point person for physician issue resolution for retention purposes. Delegation to resolve those issues to department directors or others is essential.
The Vice President will also serve as the administrator for the MarketWare software program which tracks communications with physicians and generates action items to resolve issues and concerns.
As the physician liaison for recruiting functions by working closely with the HCA Continental Division Recruiting staff will be required.
Work with the facility Ethic’s and Compliance Officer to know, understand and communicate anti-trust and anti-kickback statutes that may influence efforts.
Communicate with potential physicians regularly during process.
Communicate/acknowledge needs of spouses, family and work with community resources.
Give hospital tours for visiting, interested, and new medical staff.
Determine and make key introductions/arrangements with internal and external medical staff.
Determine thresholds for timing and expense for recruiting related expenses.
Work with retained real estate contractor to facilitate office space for incoming physicians.
Lead the strategic planning efforts for services and service lines with appropriate physicians and department directors.
Work with the Chief Financial Officer while developing pro forma income statements, staffing requirements, and identify managed care contracting issues/implications during the planning or implementation process.
Collaborate with the marketing department when developing business and implementation plans for services and/or service lines.
Delegate implementation tasks to department directors and others as necessary.
Direct other special projects as may be assigned by the COO or CEO.
Recruits, hires, and directs the training of personnel for the Business Development Department.
Conducts performance appraisals, administers discipline, employee counseling and if necessary, termination of staff according to company policy.
Mentors staff in the department to expose them to learning opportunities and projects for their career development and personal growth.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school/university in field of business, marketing, management, or health care administration is required as a minimum.
MBA or MHA is preferred.
Seven or more years of increasing responsibility in a tertiary hospital setting.
Experience with strategic planning, managed care contracting/reimbursement, working with senior management and physician leadership, and operations management at a service line level is required.
Must be able to communicate articulately and comprehend written and verbal communications.
Must be able to function efficiently in a stressful work environment.
Ability to manipulate various electronic and mechanical devices found in the business office, such as computer, calculators, copiers, etc.
Ability to work individually and in a team setting is required.
Ability to work well under continuous stress.
Ability to express thoughts clearly and concisely.
Ability to maintain concentration while working with details for extended periods of time.

This position should be highly proficient in the use of the computer with Excel, Access, Decision Support Systems and report writers, and Colorado Hospital Association Data.
Degree of supervision required: Involves general guidance and direction by the Chief Operating Officer. Employee will be expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
