The School of Pharmacy has an outstanding opportunity for an Associate Director of Experiential Education-Intermediate Practice. Under the supervision of the Director of Operations for Experiential Education, this position is responsible for coordinating operations for Intermediate Pharmacy Practice Experiences, a defining element of the new PharmD curriculum that introduces on-site experiential education opportunities to students in their first and second years. The person in this position schedules and coordinates student placements with rotation sites, supervised by clinical preceptors; advises students on academic progress matters and experiential education opportunities, policies, and procedures, particularly for Wednesdays in Practice and Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPE); supports the preceptor and site development effort; and manages relationships between the School and clinical training sites. Additional responsibilities include troubleshooting with students and preceptors on issues that arise during pharmacy practice experiences, and monitoring student completion of objectives and competencies. This position is necessary for the development and implementation of the new PharmD curriculum, which launched in Autumn 2019.
This position requires a wide range of core competencies, including student advising, professionalism, stakeholder engagement and site recruitment, organizational and project management, and written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external partners is essential. Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office, FileMaker Pro (or similar database software), calendaring tools, and web conferencing tools is strongly desired. The position may direct the work of a student assistant and/or delegate work to a Program Assistant.
Note: This position is funded through the end of academic year 2020-2021, the estimated completion time for the initial site recruitment process, program implementation, and quality improvement measures.

Management & Coordination •Manage operations for on-campus and off-campus portions of intermediate pharmacy practice experiences, including site recruitment support, scheduling, and student assignments •Coordinate and track placement of students in experiential sites (pharmacies in local and regional retailers, clinics, and health systems) for intermediate pharmacy practice experiences •Develop and revise policies and procedures related to practice experiences in collaboration with others in the Office of Professional Pharmacy Education (OPPE) •Assist with operational leadership for Experiential Education, in particular as a backup to the Associate Director for Experiential Education and Director of Operations for Experiential Education •Provide support for instructional components of intermediate pharmacy practice by working closely with faculty assigned to this area •Manage the annual review of intermediate experiential learner practice sites and preceptors for quality assurance, identify areas where attention is needed, and ensure appropriate follow-up is completed •Identify areas for improvement in the intermediate pharmacy experiential learner series and broader Experiential Education area, and make recommendations for changes in operations •Maintain and update course policies, competencies, and other documents related to pharmacy practice experiences •Participate in and contribute substantively to site and preceptor development •Manage student records related to intermediate pharmacy experiential learner preparation and completion •Work with faculty to identify outstanding practice preceptors for award recognition •Determine and report preceptor needs in the areas of training and development to the Director of Preceptor Development •Coordinate the development and delivery of preceptor training and development programs, in collaboration with the faculty lead in this area of OPPE •Supervise student assistant; delegate work to Experiential Education Assistant as appropriate •Initiate and manage relationships with clinical preceptors, including those appointed as clinical and affiliate faculty (CAF) •Support the clinical and affiliate faculty appointment process, providing information and insight on behalf of the Experiential Education program
Advising •Advise current PharmD students individually and/or in groups on academic matters (i.e., core course registration, intern registrations, elective course selection, authorizations, licensing requirements and compliance, credit loads, course requirements, degree completion, academic planning based on decisions made in the academic progress committee, concurrent degree considerations, etc.) •Advise and orient students to intermediate pharmacy practice experiences through class presentations, one-on-one meetings, and written correspondence •Collect and review petitions from students seeking a revision to their practice site placement; manage the petition process including timelines and related policies and procedures •Recruit and orient preceptors practice experiences, including online and in-person orientation efforts •Counsel students and preceptors on issues arising during site practice experiences; troubleshoot and report issues to supervisor as needed •Review student progress in intermediate pharmacy practice experience; follow up with students who are not making sufficient progress or are experiencing other issues •Communicate with Student Services regarding student crisis situations and other issues that arise •Develop Experiential Education Completion Plans for students who experience delays during the first or second year of the program in consultation with Student Services and the Director of Operations for Experiential Education •Represent the School & Experiential Education program on regular visits to experiential sites to check in with students and preceptors as part of monitoring quality of practice site experiences
Lead Responsibilities •Manage placement of students for intermediate pharmacy practice experiences •Develop and revise policies and procedures related to practice experiences in collaboration with appropriate faculty and Experiential Education staff •Manage the annual review of practice sites and preceptors for quality assurance, identify areas where attention is needed, and ensure appropriate follow-up is completed •Manage student records related to intermediate pharmacy experiential learner preparation and completion
Supervisory Responsibilities •Supervise student assistant; delegate work to Experiential Education Program Coordinator as appropriate

Qualifications •Bachelor's Degree in Education, humanities, social sciences, life sciences, business, communications, or related fields. •2-3 years experience with student advising and/or project management in higher education setting
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
•Knowledge and understanding of experiential education, particularly in pharmacy and the health sciences •Familiarity with FileMaker Pro for tracking, retrieving, and managing data •Experience using SDB, Canvas, Google tools, and Catalyst
