The Clinical Research Training & Development Specialist is an experienced research professional who is enthusiastic about research and has a desire to provide high quality training opportunities for the University of Minnesota and MHealth research workforce. The Workforce Development Specialist will help develop, manage and carry out in-person and online training programs through the Clinical and Translational Science Institute’s (CTSI) Translational Workforce Development (TWD) Program with the goal of improving the efficiency, quality, and ethics of research through training in human research conduct.
Program Management (40%) - Manage all aspects of training program logistics (coordinates with presenters, arranging space, online registration, materials, etc) for the Informed Consent in Human Research training programs (i.e. Informed Consent: Recruitment through Documentation and Informed Consent with Vulnerable Populations). - Track and delivers on key milestones to ensure timelines are met. - Track program metrics and participates in ongoing evaluation of the program.
Face-to-Face Training (30%) - Provide high quality face-to-face training to research team members (i.e. faculty, research staff, clinical staff) research professionals to achieve the TWD goal of improving the efficiency, quality, and ethics of research through training in clinical research conduct. - Deliver in-person training for the Informed Consent in Human Research training sessions. - Cross-train to provide back-up on TWD training sessions (i.e. Foundations) - Meet one-on-one with research team members to provide guidance on research training (i.e. Clinical Research Support Center office hours with coordinators). - Deliver in-person training at the Clinical Research Professional Development Series and other platforms. - Broader community outreach and engagement to build a more diverse research workforce.
Program and Curriculum Development (20%)
- Develop and implement an informed consent simulation program. - With direction from the Workforce Development Program Manager, design training programs to meet the current and emerging needs of the research workforce. - Collaborate with CTSI, University of Minnesota Medical School, HRPP, MHealth Fairview and U Physicians and other key stakeholders to provide up-to-date training and materials. -Update online and in-person training materials to provide accurate information to the research workforce. - Provide subject matter expertise to assist the TWD manager in developing materials and training. - Collaborate with the TWD manager to prepare curricula, course plans, learning materials, assignments and activities for in-person training courses.
- In collaboration with the TWD manager and CTSI’s Communication team, ensure TWD programs and initiatives are effectively communicated through various channels. - Respond promptly to inquiries about TWD programs and questions about research training.

- Bachelor's degree and five years of experience in coordinating and/or managing in human research projects, or an advanced degree and three years of experience, or a combination of related education and experience to total nine years. - Demonstrated strong program/project management skills. - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. - Excellent presentation skills. - Expertise in conducting the informed consent process, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), research ethics, regulations and study management. - Ability to provide constructive, effective feedback in real-time. - Maintains a positive professional attitude. - Demonstrated leadership skills in problem solving, decision-making, priority setting, delegation of responsibility and in being accountable. - Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Suite and Google.
Preferred Qualifications: - SoCRA or ACRP Research Certified - Experience working with vulnerable populations in research. - Experience working in a clinical setting. - RN, LPN licensure, or equivalent. - Experience in communication or marketing. - Experience with program evaluation and metrics.
