Office of Development The Office of Development is principally responsible for securing the understanding and philanthropic support of the private sector for the Institute and its programs. The Office focuses its efforts on obtaining commitments for major and principal gifts to the Institute and its associated foundation(s) and leads the comprehensive fundraising efforts, which results in gift revenues in excess of $100 million annually and nearly $200 million in new gifts and commitments during Fiscal Year 2019. Support is sought to enable the Institute and its colleges, schools, and other programs to achieve strategic objectives that will keep our educational programs on the leading edge of discoveries and developments. School of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering The School of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering (ChBE) was founded in 1901. Ranked among the top ten engineering programs in the nation for both its graduate and undergraduate programs, the school is also one of the oldest, largest, and most diverse programs. ChBE faculty members are involved in a comprehensive range of topics in education, research, and commercialization, with a strategic focus on energy & sustainability, biotechnology, materials & nanotechnology, and complex systems. ChBE has more than 40 faculty members and 1,200 undergraduate and graduate students. School of Materials Science and Engineering The School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) was founded in 1899 and offered a degree in textile engineering. In 1924, the School of Ceramics Engineering was formed to address Georgia’s growth in the ceramic and mineral industries. In 2010, the two schools merged to create one of the largest and most diverse materials programs in the country. MSE’s undergraduate program is currently ranked #2 in the country by U.S. News & World Report, and the graduate program is ranked #7. Today, faculty are advancing fuel cell technology, nanotechnology, bio-inspired manufacturing, photonics, light emitting diodes, electronic packaging, hypersonic materials, bionics, nanocomposites, light weight nano-actuators and nano-sensors. Job Purpose Front line development officer responsible for planning and implementing a coordinated program of fundraising activities. Uses professional relationship building skills to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift donors and prospective donors. Support special events to involve and cultivate major gift donors and prospects. Identifies stewardship opportunities for major gift donors. Designs and implements comprehensive development plans. Collaborates with deans, chairs, and faculty and coordinates with development and alumni relations staff. This position requires broad knowledge of fundraising approaches and solid interpersonal skills. This position is expected to drive team results while building long term, meaningful donor relationships. Typically solicits gifts in the range of $25,000 to $1 million, and manages a portfolio of up to 200 assigned donors and prospects and is accountable for raising $1 million to $2 million per year. Impact & Influence This position will interact on a regular basis with: major and principal gift donors and prospective donors, often including alumni, parents, representatives of corporations and foundations, staff, and volunteers. This position will typically advise and counsel: Deans, school chairs, faculty, academic unit and program leadership, and other development officers. This position may supervise Development support staff. Key Responsibilities - Design and/or implement comprehensive fundraising plans for assigned college, school, program, region, or constituency.
- Use professional relationship building skills to develop and implement plans and strategies for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gift donors and prospective donors. Close major gifts and commitments, personally and consistently, with a typical gift range of $25,000 to $1 million and average annual fundraising accountability of $1 million to $2 million. Maintain ongoing relationships and provide exceptional donor stewardship to encourage future giving.
- Establish and maintain a high degree of collaboration with other development officers and staff, as well as deans, school chairs, faculty, and other Institute academic and executive officers.
- Submit timely contact reports, prospect plans, and solicitations into tracking system.
- Prepare written development materials including case statements, proposals, and fundraising initiative/campaign related literature for assigned college, school, and/or program(s).
- Support special events and/or staff advisory board meetings to involve and cultivate major gift donors and prospective donors.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
