Essential Functions:
POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for the development and execution of digital content strategy for Washington University, including the creating, organizing and managing content for key university websites and other digital products. The Digital Content Strategist develops content for wustl.edu and for other digital properties for the university. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Strategy development for digital projects
- Develop content plan and information architecture for digital projects (for both new site builds and site redesigns)—structuring website content and navigation according to usability, business goals, and web best practices.
- Recommend content creation and maintenance plans for campus partners to maintain their sites over the long term.
- Implementation of content strategy for digital projects
- Collaborate with other disciplines of the Digital Communications Team and colleagues in Public Affairs to implement recommended content strategy for digital projects.
- Create IA (and site maps) for digital properties.
- Develop themes, headlines, key messages, and top-level content recommendations for website projects.
- Write, edit and proof content for the university’s top-level sites and campus partner sites according to university, Public Affairs, and AP style. Writing duties will include rewriting existing informational copy and writing concise, web-friendly pieces of new informational or marketing copy to fulfill specific topic requirements and communication objectives.
- Enter content into content management systems.
- Identify and recommend opportunities to reuse or streamline content across the WashU digital ecosystem.
- Research audience/user needs and project goals
- Perform research and analysis as required to inform strategy development. These tasks may include:
- analyzing target audiences
- identifying users needs and behaviors
- analyzing and defining project goals that address the objectives of campus partners, Public Affairs, and intended audiences
- conducting content audits
- reviewing web analytics to discover site issues and opportunities
- performing competitive analysis
- assessing usability/accessibility
- Facilitation/Partner Management
- Identify partner needs and goals.
- Help to clarify, define, guide partners to set achievable, tangible objectives.
- Champion recommended solutions on behalf of the digital team.
- Reinforcing the team’s thought leadership and expertise with regard to digital content strategy.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree plus one year of experience with the development of content for digital communications, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least three years of professional experience with developing content for digital communications
- Experience working on a team through the entire lifespan (inception through site launch) of projects creating or redesigning websites
- Experience working with a variety of websites that encompass multiple target audiences and business goals
- Experience working in marketing and communications, with a focus on understanding audience needs and user behavior
- Mastery of best practices of developing audience-focused content for the web
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Familiarity with AP editorial style
- Demonstrated skill creating information architecture for websites (card sorting, sitemaps, navigation paths, etc.)
- Working knowledge of content management systems
- Familiarity with digital analytics and measurement
- A strong portfolio that demonstrates knowledge in developing and organizing web content
Applicant Special Instructions:
Ability to travel to and from campus partner meetings on the Danforth Campus; travel to on- and off-campus locations as needed, per campus partner requirements.
Salary Range:
Salary offered will be commensurate with skills and experience.
