Design Reviewer - History Center

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Bachelor’s degree plus five years experience in historic preservation, preservation planning or equivalent OR an advanced degree plus four years experience in historic preservation, preservation planning or equivalent.
• Must meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards for historic architecture: a professional degree in architecture or a state license to practice architecture, plus graduate study in architectural preservation, American architectural history, preservation planning, or closely related field or professional experience in working on historic preservation projects, including detailed investigations of historic structures, preparation of historic structures reports, and preparation of plans and specifications for rehabilitation projects.
• Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize projects according to deadlines; complete complex projects independently; and work under time constraints.
• Familiarity and experience with historic preservation programs, including a thorough understanding of the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
• Basic knowledge of American and Minnesota history, as well as architectural development and technology.
• Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize projects according to deadlines; complete complex projects independently; and work under time constraints.
• Strong customer service experience, with solid communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation).
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate across diverse disciplines, backgrounds, education, and interests.
• Valid driver’s license, willingness to travel, and ability to work evenings and occasional weekends,

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

• Advanced degree in architecture, historic preservation, or a closely related field.
• Highly developed interpersonal skills to negotiate, mediate, and collaborate with a wide variety of people with a diverse range of knowledge, skills, backgrounds, education, and interests.
• Familiarity with computer-aided design, image manipulation software (e.g., Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, etc.), and Microsoft Office software
• Experience using a digital SLR camera for architectural photography.
• One to three years’ experience working in or volunteering with a history organization with demonstrated ability to work independently and successfully with people in completing projects requiring adherence to specific, detailed, and technical guidelines.
