Minnesota State is seeking a Data Architect to join its Data team to provide services to the Minnesota State system office and all 37 colleges and universities of the Minnesota State system.
Minnesota State is the largest provider of higher education in the state of Minnesota and the fifth largest system of higher education in the United States. The system serves 400,000 students annually through seven four-year universities and 24 two-year technical and community colleges.
The Enterprise Data Architect is responsible for the architectural design and planning of enterprise data for Minnesota State Colleges and Universities. This role defines how the company's structured and unstructured data will be stored, consumed, integrated/shared, and reported by enterprise application systems. This position will define and align data architecture principles to the overarching enterprise architecture principles. The position provides expertise in: data analysis, design, deploying and management of the enterprise's data architecture, defining requirements, developing and designing secure architectures, developing system wide processes and standards, selecting enterprise wide data products, tools, technologies and services. The Enterprise Data Architect works with all functional areas within IT in the system office and at institutions to design and support secure technologies to meet the business needs of the System.
The person must have a high-level understanding of enterprise data architecture, data technologies and solutions, and how they fit into enterprise architecture overall. Expertise is required in building an enterprise data model, a central dictionary of operational and technical definitions that support a standard common business vocabulary, define strategy/approach & principles for data quality management, master data management, metadata management, data integration, data security/access and data archiving & retention.

A Bachelor's degree in information systems or related technology OR equivalent combination of education and experience
Six (6) years' experience designing and implementing data systems in an Analyst/Lead role
Two (2) years' experience in enterprise data modeling, and technical and operational metadata management
Experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise data applications.
Expertise in at least one of the following: database management, data warehousing, business intelligence.
Ability to analyze and effectively communicate complex technical ideas to other technical personnel and management.
Ability to create, maintain and organize documentation to support architectural standards and principles.
Demonstrated strong leadership and mentoring skills.
Demonstrated strong communication and presentation skills (written and verbal).
Ability to develop effective working relationships and work collaboratively with colleagues.

Master's degree in information technology or other related field
Experience with unstructured data
Experience with analytics
Significant implementation and development experience with Microsoft BI/Enterprise Reporting tools; data integration (SSIS), analytics (SSAS), business intelligence (SSRS), and visualization.
Strong project management skills
Experience working with an enterprise level ERP system
