Senior Graphic Designer Communications and Marketing
The Senior Graphic Designer is responsible for advancing the College’s mission and strategic vision through working as an integral part of the creative team responsible for College design. The Senior Graphic Designer collaborates in varying capacities with the design of marketing materials that brand and promote the College, both in print and digital delivery formats. The Senior Graphic Designer works with the Art Director to take assigned projects from start to finish, and manages and mentors freelance staff, graphic design interns and student workers as appropriate.
The Senior Graphic Designer collaborates with colleagues throughout the Office of College Advancement (OCA), as well as other campus departments and administrative offices. The Senior Graphic Designer helps to create, implement, integrate, assess and strengthen—on an ongoing basis—the College’s visual identity and the impact of its visual communications.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Acting independently and in collaboration with others as needed, responsible for:
the design and production of all promotional and marketing materials for the College, which includes all marketing materials such as brochures, posters, invitations, logos, signage, postcards, templates, self-mailers, event publicity, advertisements and other materials, both in print and digital formats
meeting with partners in various administrative offices and academic departments to determine design needs and recommend possible solutions
assisting with research and data collection in developing design strategies to reach targeted audiences
the creation, promotion and maintenance of an effective and consistent overall look and feel for the College’s visual communications, using as a basis for these communications the College’s visual Identity Guide and Brand Identity Guidelines
the creation and maintenance of organized schedules and procedures for all jobs and the management of project timelines
the management of all external creative needs, including design, production, photography, illustration and printing
working with freelance photographers and providing art direction on photography needs as necessary
working with web designer(s) and providing general art direction for the web and to designing basic animations as well as web and email graphics as needed
travel to and conduct press checks for printed communications with vendors and coordinates with their onsite printing staff to ensure appropriate levels of production quality and identify and resolve any actual or potential issues.
Provide ongoing support for the brand initiative, focusing on ways to continually refresh the look and feel of publications and visual communications in keeping with Brand Identity Guidelines
Work closely with partners and vendors to ensure quality and cost control standards are maintained; solicit and negotiate printing estimates.
Estimate and verify the cost of printing projects, verify billing and manage purchase orders and project delivery
Work on multiple projects with varying deadlines
Work with the Art Director to maintain and build freelance pools of illustrators, designers, photographers and printers
Coordinate, mentor and oversee the work of freelance graphic designers, graphic design interns, and student workers, as necessary
Maintain ongoing awareness of graphic design industry trends and developments
Perform other functions as requested
B.A. or B.F.A. in graphic design or visual communications, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities of the position.
Five or more years of related experience that includes working on the production of publications, visual products, user interface designs, animations, or web designs and working with clients and vendors.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Expertise in the design and production of publications, including design layout and print production
Strong aesthetic skills with the ability to combine various colors, fonts and layouts.
Strong technical aptitude for work in a Macintosh environment, including expert skills in InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. Expertise in web and interactive design (Adobe Creative Suite experience required)
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
Knowledge of printing industry and ability to effectively work with printers and other publication personnel
Command of the English language to ensure proper grammar and punctuation
Ability to work with diverse groups of faculty, staff, alumni and students on multiple projects with varying deadlines
Personal integrity and ability to interact successfully with individuals with varying abilities, backgrounds, interests and beliefs
Team player with exceptional interpersonal skills and excellent verbal skills
Positive attitude and strong work ethic
Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision on projects as assigned
Ability to exercise a high degree of accurate and independent judgment, tact and discretion
Must be able to lift 25 pounds from ground to hip level without assistance
Considerable time is spent at a desk using a computer
May be required to travel to different campus buildings
May be required to attend conferences and training sessions and meet with external vendors or suppliers.
Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record-acceptable to the College’s automobile insurance carrier.
Employment Category: Regular, Full-Time
Work Hours and Days: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; hours and days may vary due to the needs of the College and/or department; occasional travel required to meet with vendors, conferences, and other off-site meetings.
