Winthrop University, a highly ranked, public, comprehensive university, announces a national search for an Assistant Professor of Fine Arts (Studio Arts). This is a 9-month, full-time, tenure-track appointment in the Department of Fine Arts within the College of Visual and Performing Arts. Salary and rank are dependent upon qualifications. This position requires daily contact with students, faculty, and staff on campus. Additionally, the successful candidate may be expected to occasionally participate in events in the evenings and on weekends. The ideal candidate will assume a major role in teaching and advising within the department’s B.A. and B.F.A. degree programs, and occasionally teach graduate level courses in the M.F.A. program; will bring a broad perspective informed by active research on contemporary art making with proficiency in traditional printmaking processes and digital art making technologies; and will have a strong technical and theoretical foundation in printmaking, as well as an expansive approach that embraces the changing role of art-making and multiples. The successful candidate will be teaching courses within the Foundations program and Printmaking (i.e. intaglio, relief, and planographic processes). Additionally, the ideal candidate will demonstrate an ability to work across a variety of visual arts disciplines, and their creative practice and teaching would show an ability to work with and give instruction in a contemporary and/or interdisciplinary approach to art making, incorporating both traditional and contemporary technologies (i.e. laser cutter, CNC router, 3D printing, digital printing, etc.) Responsibilities - Teach 18 contact hours each semester.
- Teach courses in Printmaking (traditional, digital, and printmaking in the expanded field)
- Teach foundation level courses based on the candidate's qualifications
- Occasionally teach graduate-level fine art courses or supervise MFA students
- Participate in curriculum development, accreditation, assessment, and program planning.
- Effectively advise and mentor fine art majors.
- Maintain creative/scholarly activity as demonstrated by an active research profile.
- Engage in professional stewardship and academic responsibilities to the department, college, university, discipline, and community, as appropriate.

Qualifications Required Qualifications - M.F.A. or equivalent terminal degree.
- Demonstrated ability to address 2D, 3D, and 4D foundational media and design principles.
- Actively engaged in scholarship, publication, and professional activity.
- Evidence of teaching excellence at the post-secondary level.
- Ability to teach traditional printmaking processes (intaglio, relief, planographic).
- Demonstrated experience with contemporary practices in art making, which employ both digital and traditional skills in printmaking and printmaking the expanded field.
- Knowledge of the history, theory, and contemporary fields of printmaking.
- Demonstrated interest in incorporating emerging technologies with traditional media.
- Demonstrated expertise in teaching related to interdisciplinary and collaborative studies.
- Ability or interest in teaching digital media courses.
- Willingness to collaborate, communicate, and contribute to the growth of the department.
Desirable Qualifications - Minimum of three years of university-level teaching experience working with students at various levels (foundation through graduate).
- Research and creative work that explores the intersection of digital and emerging technologies and traditional media and techniques.
- Ability to teach digital media courses, coding, installation, sound, performance, emerging technologies (Adobe Creative Suite, 3D fabrication, laser cutter, CNC router).
- Exhibition record with regional, national and/or international exposure.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with diverse student populations.

About the Fine Arts Department The Department of Fine Arts at Winthrop is a creative community that offers a flexible and multidisciplinary approach to Fine Arts.
