The Online Learning and Technology Specialist supports the Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship (CNDLS) online learning programs that contribute to the broader strategic direction of CNDLS digital learning efforts. Under the direction of the Senior Associate Director for Online Programs and senior project personnel, the incumbent provides technical expertise and pedagogical support in the design and development of hybrid and fully online courses. S/he collaborates with other CNDLS staff including learning designers, media specialists, web developers and serves as project manager on a portfolio of new and existing online courses and programs. Serving as the day-to-day point of contact for faculty and other stakeholders and coordinating team priorities, project planning, organizing and building out online courses, the Online Learning and Technology Specialist has additional duties that include but are not limited to:
Coordination and Project Management
Manages, coordinates, implements, tracks, and supports the development of online courses/programs including blended courses and MOOCs; This includes managing the coordination and completion of projects throughout the entire lifecycle of new course design and developments within timeline, scope and budget parameters, tracking project progress and efforts, communicating project status with faculty, stakeholders and management, streamlining work process for team collaboration, coordination of people and resources, developing and ensuring effective workflows, and administration.
Develops and builds course content on learning management system.
Provides support to CNDLS technology-related efforts in researching, piloting, and adopting new technologies as appropriate depending on project needs and priorities.
Researches learning technologies, conducts usability and accessibility testing, compares features across similar technologies, documents the research, provides trainings to other staff and faculty, and creates instructions and documentations for students and faculty.
Makes recommendations on possible adoption and implementation of innovative concepts, approaches, and tools to online teaching and learning.
Offers faculty development workshops/webinars, in collaboration with other CNDLS staff, and participates in other faculty development initiatives as needed.
Presents at and attends teaching and learning conferences and other professional development opportunities.
Provides support on communication efforts both internally and externally, making work related to online programs more visible.
Requirements and Qualifications
Master's degree in educational/instructional technology, education, or a related field preferred.
Minimum two years of experience working in a fast-paced university environment and project management
Experience with a variety of instructional technologies, as well as a working understanding of HTML/CSS
Experience with learning management systems with demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple, complex projects simultaneously
Experience with assessment designs and instruments, along with effective time management and organizational skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively and tactfully with members of the academic community
Experience with Agile, Waterfall and other project management methodologies
Demonstrated commitment to excellence in education and to faculty development
Ability to work well in teams as well as independently while managing multiple concurrent projects
Ability to interact effectively and appropriately with a wide range of colleagues in the academic community
Attention to detail and enthusiastic approach to a broad range of tasks and duties to contribute to project and department goals
Familiarity with assessment necessary; application of assessment in higher education a plus
