About the Position: The Office of Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness leads systematic and integrated efforts to explore the impact of university programs, curricula, services and operations. We provide meaningful data to support strategic planning and decision-making at all levels of the university and we play a critical role in demonstrating accountability to accreditation, external entities and the general public. Our commitment is to foster a campus-wide culture of data-informed decision-making, continuous improvement, and teaching and learning innovations. We are seeking an analytical and data driven individual to join our team as a Senior Research Analyst (Associate, Academic and Institutional Studies II). Under the general supervision of Assistant Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness, the Senior Research Analyst (Associate, Academic and Institutional Studies II) undertakes analytical studies of considerable scope and complexity including recognizing side issues or related problems for further inquiry and for recommending lines of approach to incorporate them into the main study or to pursue them through a separate project. Performs preliminary planning of analytical methods and develops data visualization tools. Designs project research approaches and designs, employs complex analytical methods to conduct in-depth studies, draws conclusions, summarizes findings, and develops recommendations. Periodic checks are made as to the general progress of the study and the final product is reviewed in detail. Long-range and continuing studies are reported on periodically and changes in direction or focus, as required by changing circumstances, are cleared with the supervisor. These research assignments support planning, policy development, and institutional effectiveness and generally address the following topic areas: Data quality, analysis, warehousing, dash-boarding; curriculum and co-curricular programming, academic planning, institutional effectiveness and accountability, strategic plan support, and accreditation standards. Performs data collection, such as web-based surveys and merging data from diverse sources. Work includes a strong emphasis on quantitative data analysis, interpreting and drawing conclusions from the findings, and preparing presentations and other materials to disseminate the findings to support data-driven decision-making and institutional improvement. Mentors junior staff and leads complex projects with them. Serves as one of the primary contacts in the office. Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with four years of progressively responsible technical or professional analytical experience which demonstrates ability to conduct substantive studies of problems and issues in assigned areas. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of the techniques and treatment of data such as simple correlation methods, trend analysis, frequency distribution analysis, sampling techniques, hypothesis testing and methods of interval estimation. Demonstrates ability to reason logically and capacity for independent and creative thinking on research problems. Demonstrates skills in project management, research planning and design, data collection, analysis, report preparation and graphic presentation of results. Experience using qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, design, and techniques. Experience using statistical software (SAS, SPSS, etc.). Experience developing, organizing and maintaining relational database and/or data warehouse systems, preferably in a university environment. Computer skills including spreadsheets, word processing, and integrated database applications. Demonstrates ability to manage multiple tasks in a collaborative and transparent manner. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Sensitivity to issues of diversity in a university community. Ability to work well in a diverse, collegial and consultative team environment. Detail oriented and ability to prioritize and organize work to meet deadlines, and functions effectively in a high-pressure, outcome-driven environment, with minimal supervision. Ability to use judgment, discretion, and decision-making skills in dealing with confidential and sensitive issues.
