The Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications at Northwestern University seeks to hire a full-time faculty member with expertise in documentary filmmaking.
Successful candidates will be outstanding and experienced professionals ready to contribute to our documentary program on both the Evanston and Chicago campuses. We’re looking for a candidate to inspire and educate the next generation of journalists.
This position provides the opportunity to work with an exceptional group of students and faculty. Your best students will compete for journalism’s highest awards. National or international travel with students is a possibility.
This position requires teaching both graduate and undergraduate students. Experience in a university classroom is strongly preferred, as is a deep understanding and connection to the documentary community – both in the Chicago area and nationally.
The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in directing and producing short- and long-form documentaries that have shown at major film festivals, have been distributed by major news outlets and have won industry awards. Applicants should have a strong portfolio of work to demonstrate their mastery.
Candidates must have technical skills in shooting, writing, editing and producing journalism of high impact, as well as critical thinking skills and thought leadership experience. Proficiency with the tools of video journalism and motion graphics such as Adobe Premiere and Adobe CC applications are required, as is the ability to teach students how to use them to create effective journalism. Professional experience in audio storytelling is a plus.
An advanced degree is preferred.

This is a non-tenure position. Faculty rank is open. Depending on experience, the position may have the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor on the clinical/professional track.
Anticipated start is September 2020 with a multi-year contract.
