Job Summary: The Assistant Director of Broadcast Production assists in directing and producing video content for The University of Alabama Division of Strategic Communications, through social, digital and traditional media to promote and publicize the university, its entities and administrators to all stakeholders, with a particular focus on the recruitment and retention of students to UA.
Additional Department Summary: The position is responsible for shooting and editing video for campus marketing initiatives, providing audio production services, and coordinating the management of digital assets. Other duties include the coordination, maintenance, and purchase of videography equipment; creating and assisting in the production of video projects for both internal and external clients, and revising and maintaining clerical/financial records for the Department of Broadcast Production. Will communicate with the Director of Broadcast Production on priorities and status of the office; assess workflow and deadlines and establishing priorities for the work of the department. This position will have oversight of the Broadcast Production internship program. Will serve as the acting director and manage day-to-day operations in the absence of the Director of Broadcast Production.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism, communications, film, or creative media and three (3) years of experience in broadcasting, communications, or media relations; OR Master's degree in broadcast journalism, communications, film, or creative media and one (1) year of experience in broadcasting, communications, or media relations.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report as determined by the insurance carrier.
Skills and Knowledge: Works creatively to produce and edit video that markets and promotes The University of Alabama. This position will require advanced cinematography and storytelling skills and experience. Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite or other digital editing software. This position will maintain any records, clerical files, and accounts for the Broadcast Production Department. This position will include shooting, editing and producing video and audio content, and manage student staff hired to support the efforts of the Department of Broadcast Production.
Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with ARRI Amira and Alexa Mini cinema cameras preferred. Sports cinematography experience preferred.
