Our department at Analog Devices, Inc., moves more than 30,000 pages of documentation annually. We are expanding our team of seasoned professional technical editors familiar with production editing in a fast-paced environment.
All technical documents are produced to the rigorous in-house publishing standards of Analog Devices, requiring new editors to quickly adapt to and learn numerous standards and consistently apply them across all document types.
Technical editors project manage documentation through its various approval points, as well as to content completion. The technical editor works as the project lead in teams of three: technical editor, technical illustrator, and engineer to ensure that each document meets all Analog Devices standards and deadlines. Ability to work both as a supportive team member and autonomously to achieve the department's goals is crucial to success. A strong work ethic with some overtime required (typically at end-of-quarter) is expected, with team perks, such as Friday breakfasts during the EOQ period, gift cards for extraordinary performance, occasional off-site business lunches and optional after-hours gatherings.
The office is currently based in Norwood, MA off Rte. 1, easily accessible to I-95/Rte. 128 (Exit 15). As of approximately June 2020, we are moving to the Wilmington, MA campus. Work is on-site only, with flex time. All employee editors begin as contractors with conversion possible after 12 to 18 months.
Job SCOPE: Technical Editor/Writer
This role is predominantly (~80%) technical editing with some writing (or more commonly, rewriting), as needed. Edit and quality check technical documents for accuracy and consistency according to Analog Devices publishing and content standards. Collaborate with originators (internal engineers) and illustrators to ensure publishing deadlines are met. Provide guidance to originators in the publishing processes and standards and assist, as required, with the coaching, training, or demonstration of editorial skills to editors-in-training. Provide support on department special projects, participate in department quality improvement initiatives, spearhead standards inquiries (when requested), beta test new procedures/software/templates or other experimental projects.
Editing: Edit and quality check product-related documents using MS Word and web-interfaced database. Includes formatting and text editing within a template, ensuring Analog Devices data sheet and other content standards are consistently met.
Writing: Write technical content from existing internal knowledge sources. Content may be small in nature—a paragraph or two, or larger—turning a PPT presentation into a tutorial, application note, or other technical document, and providing occasional writing for internal and external websites, newsletters, and other materials.
Project Management: Coordinate the work of originators and illustrators to create 15 to 30+ technical documents each business quarter. Ensure effective collaboration by acting as a resource to originators who need help editing in the template. Be a specialist in client relations, interacting with internal partners, such as Product Services, WW Quality, Web Content, and engineers on a daily basis: answering questions, and resolving issues.
Processes: Work with manager and special projects personnel to pilot new processes, software, and systems. Learn and implement a variety of workflows and processes necessary to produce data sheets and other technical documents within Analog Devices. Participate in team-based process, workflow, and other improvement initiatives.
Time/Job Tracking: Input time and workflow updates during document production.
Departmental: Work on continuous improvement projects as needed, including the new documentation production software being introduced in 2020. Participate in departmental newsletter when called upon (writing, editing, video/interviews).
General: When called upon, participate in the research, development, and/or management of standardized guidelines for style and terminology usage. Ensure all guidelines are met for every document. Use approved reference materials including internal documentation as well as IEEE Dictionary and the AP Style Guide. All documents must be edited to “American” English. Must be a positive contributor to the team. Complete assigned projects with supporting reports and documentation as needed.
Applicant Notification: We will begin reaching out to schedule interviews beginning December 2019 until positions are filled. Please, no calls.
