The Agronomy Department of the College of Agriculture, Purdue University is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist in Corn Production position. This is a full time (9 month) tenure track position with an appointment of Extension, applied research and teaching at the graduate level. Summer salary will be available to support Extension efforts. This position will address the needs of the state’s corn-growing farmers that produce 5.2 million acres of corn with a value in excess of $3.5 billion dollars. The successful candidate will provide leadership for an innovative statewide Extension curriculum and research program that addresses important issues in corn production relevant throughout Indiana and the Midwestern U.S. This person will develop and disseminate science-based information to producers, technical service providers, and government agency personnel using information delivery technologies most appropriate for the intended audience. The appointee is expected to develop a vigorous, externally funded research and Extension program that supports graduate students and publishing in peer-reviewed scientific literature. The successful candidate should also have demonstrated abilities in classroom education. Teaching responsibilities include a graduate course in crop production that might encompass digital and precision technologies, translation of research to recommendations, crop diagnostics, or other pertinent topics. Service expectations include participation in appropriate professional organizations and on departmental/college/University committees.

Successful candidates must have a Ph.D. in Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Science, or closely related discipline. A commitment to excellence in solving agronomic issues through research and encouraging adoption of solutions through communication and interaction with agricultural and community stakeholders. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential and candidates should be able to demonstrate good teaching skills.
