The Department of Environmental Studies is the oldest Environmental Studies program in the U.S. serving more than 280 majors. It has a vibrant history of education, research, and community service. The Department offers students an interdisciplinary understanding of serious environmental problems, and provides training to address issues such as environmental restoration, resource conservation and management, environmental social science, environmental policy, environmental toxicology and risk assessment, and environmental sustainability. The BS and BA degrees emphasize strong writing, research, and qualitiative and quantitative skills as well as integration of science, policy, and the socio-economic/cultural aspects of environmental problem solving. The department is part of a College whose portfolio includes strong interdisciplinary programs. The College is home to 11 academic departments, 3 interdisciplinary academic programs, and several centers and institutes.
