This position supports the work of the Health Equity Research Workgroup, led by Dr. Debra Furr-Holden, C.S. Mott Endowed Professor of Public Health. This role has a dual focus of research support activities and related administrative tasks. Research activities include assisting researchers conducting substantive research on the process of disseminating evidence to community stakeholders specifically project management (recruitment, data collection, and data analysis) and may assist with other research activities as necessary. Administrative work will include coordination of research meetings (drafting agendas and recording meeting minutes), managing associated special events and projects, attending meetings within the community and University and other duties as assigned. This position will work closely with academic and community leaders, community organizations and service providers, members of the news media, and the public. This position reports to the Senior Research Program Manager and is located at the College of Human Medicine's Flint Campus in Flint, Michigan.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in the specific field of research employment or other related science fields; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in standard laboratory procedures and safety requirements and performing analytical and research techniques in an area related to research being performed; may require software specific to the area of research; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Social Science, Public Health or related field. This position requires demonstrated mastery of computer operation, attention to detail, the ability to organize varied tasks, and meet competing deadlines. Preferred skills include: research project management experience and community engaged work or action research. One to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in departmental operations, employment, or in performing tasks related to the area of employment; experience in word processing, editing and composing correspondence, and maintaining spreadsheets and/or databases; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
