We seek a highly motivated Research Project Manager to work on two epidemiological projects to investigate olfactory impairment and neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and dementia. The field data collection will be carried out by collaborators off MSU campus in North Carolina. The research manager will assist with the day-to-day study operations, which include taking a leadership role in study preparation (e.g., developing study materials and IRB applications), coordinating and monitoring research activities elsewhere (e.g. data collection, DNA extraction, and genotyping in various study sites), maintaining and improving the study’s quality assurance procedures, providing human subjects protection oversight, ensuring study protocol compliance, tracking and reporting study progress, and preparing additional grant applications. The project manager will also have the opportunity to contribute to the science, including data management and analysis, result interpretation, and manuscript preparations. In addition to this project, the candidate will also assist the PI with other projects, mainly data management and analyses.
This position will be at the MSU campus in East Lansing, and is anticipated to start early January 2020.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in epidemiology or related science field; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in overseeing research projects and laboratory operations, operating and maintaining a variety of laboratory equipment, performing specialized and difficult analytical and research techniques, and designing research experiments in an area related to research being performed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Master’s degree in epidemiology or equivalent experience in epidemiology or a related field.
Experience in research data collection and/or collaboration with large and interdisciplinary teams.
Demonstrated interest and potential for scientific research.
Experience working with university IRB; study budget management experience within a corporate or university-based administrative structure.
Takes pride in the production of high-quality work; outstanding interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral).
Fast learning and high sense of responsibility.
Attention to details and multi-tasking; ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
Knowledge about human subject protection and IRB requirements.
One-year experience as a research project manager and knowledge of statistical analyses and programming experience using statistical software programs (e.g., SAS).
