Position Summary: In the capacity as the STEM Engagement Coordinator, the incumbent shall serve as FortyX80’s primary leader responsible for supporting the STEM Education initiatives.
As a key focus of responsibility, the Coordinator will be responsible for creating and managing our inaugural STEM Speakers Bureau that will bring together middle school students and STEM Professionals in Southwestern Pennsylvania both in the classroom and in real-world experiences. The Coordinator will also assist in coordinating other leadership development programs facilitated by FortyX80.
This position reports to the Director, Entrepreneurship and Investor Relations.
In pursuit of these ends, the STEM Engagement Coordinator shall be responsible for the following duties:
Develop a STEM Engagement program focused on accelerating engagement and interest of middle school students in STEM related fields and topics
Create a trained group of volunteer STEM professionals, comprised from a diverse set of regional technology employers
Create real-world experiential learning opportunities for students to encounter applied example of current lessons plans
Train an initial cadre of trained STEM volunteers for the speakers bureau
Identify and build relationships with regional middle schools
Be the liaison between the schools and the STEM professionals
Work directly with intermediate school teachers and administrators to understand their current lesson plans and specific needs for external expertise
Provide training to the volunteer STEM professionals and help them understand current curricula and best practices for student engagement
2. Develop programs and events to help advance the interests of STEM education efforts within the region’s technology sector.
3. Operate within annual budgets for all programs and services
4. Work with the management team to develop innovative new and strategic services in the area of STEM education
5. Manage relationships with appropriate partner organizations
6. Participate in professional development activities aimed at increasing knowledge across a wide array of areas
Performance and Technical Skills Required for Success:
Experience in classroom setting working to educate or train students or technology professionals
Strong project management
Ability to multi-task effectively
Strong strategic planning skills
Various desktop applications (word processing, presentations)
Experience and Educational Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Education preferred
Ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations
Ability to stand, walk and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-20 pounds
May require sitting for long periods of time
Good hand-eye coordination, arm hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp
Visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information
