The Associate Director leads the development and coordination of the annual giving program for the College. In this role, the Associate Director also serves as a consultant for College departments. The Associate Director, together with the Senior Director of Advancement will work to ensure that the College and the departments they serve utilize the most efficient, creative and effective annual giving strategies, and acts as a driving force to explore novel ideas that lead to the creation of new approaches and projects.

The Associate Director of Annual Giving will work to advance the College of Engineering’s development goals by:
Promoting donor-centric approaches, well-timed solicitation schedules and data-driven program strategy and analysis to increase revenue generation and donor engagement
Utilizing and encouraging annual giving best practices across solicitation platforms and channels through benchmarking and awareness of fundraising trends
Empowering departments to communicate and engage with alumni through the lifecycle of their relationship with the College
Promoting creativity, problem-solving skills and innovation within the annual giving community
Providing support and expertise to departments throughout the planning and implementation of annual giving programs, from prospect engagement to solicitation and stewardship
Developing donor loyalty and building a foundation for future major donors
Partnering with other teams in the College to enhance the donor experience and internal customer service while promoting the importance and value of annual giving efforts
Annual Giving Strategy Development and Execution
Under leadership of Senior Director of Advancement, design, plan and execute College annual giving program using all appropriate channels including digital fundraising
Develop plans for annual giving donor engagement, pipeline development and solicitation improvement
Work in collaboration with uAG team on the annual planning process and development of overarching solicitation plan
Actively explore and promote new analytics initiatives, market expansion, use of both internal/external partners and resources to ensure the program is effective, efficient and progressive
Participate in the ongoing stewardship of donors utilizing a donor centric approach
Coordinate College-wide Giving Blueday activity including department coordination, website management and matching gift activity
Develop, in coordination with Student Affairs, student philanthropy program incorporating engagement with sponsored student organizations and teams
Department Consulting and Service
Works with department leadership and designees to plan and implement annual giving programs using all appropriate channels. Provides consultation to departments in reviewing performance and planning future efforts
Assists in the development of department plans for donor engagement and pipeline development and solicitation improvement. Works with departments to determine how each department can best develop plans to fit their individual fundraising needs.
Provides annual giving expertise, including regular, value-added analysis and program review
Provides general consulting and support as needed and appropriate
Develops and coordinates skill-building programs for department annual giving officers including quarterly community meetings, specialized training and workshops and best practice sharing
Proactively maintains knowledge of current trends in the Annual Giving field
Participates in professional education opportunities and peer networking opportunities
Monitors Annual Giving trade publications and websites
Helps draft and lead professional development activities and workshops for department partners
Participates in best practice sharing with peer institutions through proactive outreach and prompt response to requests for information
Reporting, Data Analysis and Data Integrity
Monitor reports and data files to ensure data integrity
Analyze program results and continually monitor opportunities for improvement and/or testing to achieve best results
Manages the creation and maintenance of annual giving reports
Responding to and routing donor inquiries and concerns as appropriate
Completes other projects and duties as assigned
3-5 years of experience in annual giving, fundraising, marketing or advertising
Experience with direct mail, telemarketing, internet marketing, statistical analysis, strategic planning, annual budget planning, project management and print production preferred
Excellent communication and analytical skills

Strong organizational skills
Ability to set priorities and flexibility to meet changing priorities
Advanced degree is desirable; a minimum of three years of experience working in higher education; close familiarity with and commitment to the University of Michigan; working knowledge of DART and Business Objects.
