The Department of Architecture, Urban Planning + Design (AUP+D) is currently seeking an Assistant Professor of Architecture. The person hired for this tenure-track position will direct the first-year Environmental Design curriculum supporting the UMKC Architectural Studies program and the UMKC Urban Planning + Design program. UMKC's Architectural Studies program is a collaboration with Kansas State University. Required teaching responsibilities include two semesters of first-year design studio and architectural history. Some opportunities exist in the Department to teach digital architecture to design majors and design thinking as a part of general education. Service responsibilities include contributions to program administration (such as advising, recruitment, and coordination with Kansas State) and work advancing diversity and inclusion in the design professions. Some preferred areas of research and professional practice include architectural history, design pedagogy, community design processes, and/or sustainability.
A MArch degree, progress toward licensure, work experience, and teaching experience. Our preferred candidate will have a passion for teaching design process.
