East Carolina University's School of Art and Design seeks applicants for the Carol Grotnes Belk Distinguished Professor of Art (Belk Professor) in the field of animation and/or interactive design. This position will teach in the School of Art and Design's Animation and Interactive Design (A/ID) concentration within the BFA in Art. The A/ID program is growing and seeks an expert to contribute to the expanding needs of the concentration. Areas of teaching may include but are not limited to beginning to advanced level art studios, 2D/3D animation, 3D modeling, 3D character rigging, game asset design, Processing, and/or generative art making. This position will teach two three-credit courses per semester (four annually), which is a reduced workload based on School of Art and Design standards. The Belk Professor may have the opportunity to teach at the graduate level.
The Belk Professor's responsibilities also include the communication, creation and application of knowledge to enrich the students, faculty, and reputation of the School of Art and Design. The Belk Professor will continue their professional art and/or design practice; mentor students; engage with other faculty regularly; participate in departmental activities, such as recruiting; engage in opportunities for curricular and course development that reflect their expertise and professional experience; and other activities as appropriate. To accomplish these goals, the Belk Professor has access to a significant budget funded through an endowment.
The Carol Grotnes Belk Distinguished Professorship is a five-year, non-tenured, nine-month appointment with the possibility of renewal for an additional five-year term.

Terminal degree (MFA, Ph.D., or equivalent) in animation, interactive design, and/or game design or a minimum of 10 years equivalent professional experience.
Evidence of substantial creative activity and/or research at the national level

Evidence of collaborative or interdisciplinary projects
Evidence of community engagement with art and/or design at local and national levels
Experience or demonstrated leadership in the arts and/or design with record of achievement

The School of Art and Design provides a multidisciplinary approach to art and design that provides opportunities for students to develop their creative and critical thinking abilities by thinking through making. The School currently enrolls more than 550 students in twelve areas across four degrees. The School of Art and Design is the most comprehensive and largest BFA Art program in University of North Carolina system, and has been continuously accredited by NASAD since 1962.
